Challenges

Send any responses to kantayra@hotmail.com.

Except for the Seventh Slayer challenges, all stories should have homes elsewhere.
If you REALLY don't have any place to put your response, let me know and we'll work something out.

I've had a bunch of story ideas where I've gone "hmm, that would be interesting, but I doubt I'll ever bother to do it," so I figured, hey, why not list them as challenges? So, if you're looking for inspiration, this is the place to be.

Fanart Challenges: #1 ~ #2

Fanfiction Challenges:

#1. Practically Perfect In Every Way

Requirements:

    Setting: Any time post-Crush

Pairing: B/S...although they need not end up together. You can tack on a potential S/Other pairing to increase the drama if you want, but the focus should be primarily B/S.

Length: Whatever you want, but it'll probably have to be a longer fic to get in all the story requirements.

    Basic Plot Elements:

        1. Buffy's been annoyed by Spike's advances lately and comments off-handedly something along the lines of "Everything would just be so much easier if he didn't love me."
        2. The person she makes this statement to is willing to grant her a romantic wish. (This person could be a vengeance demon or something else.)
        3. Buffy's wish is to make Spike the perfect man for her to love. She has to list off a whole bunch of things that she doesn't like about him (smoking, leather, bleach, sarcasm, vampireness, the crypt (if it's S5 or S6) - whatever; let her go crazy about things she'd change about him). She makes her wish, conveniently forgetting about the earlier I-don't-want-him-to-love-me part.
        4. Spike's changed! Everything that Buffy complained about has been fixed. One thing in particular - he has to be a really big hit with her friends now: Xander's best buddy, helping Willow with the magic, Giles with the research. Everyone loves him; he's one of the gang.
        5. Buffy falls in love with him. Only, when she tries to kiss him - whoops! - it turns out that he-doesn't-love-her part has come true as well. I want to see Spike give Buffy the "let's be friends" speech. Make it good. ~_^
        6. Now rejected, Buffy slowly comes to realize that, hey, she doesn't like a lot of other things she changed about him quite so much, either. In fact, she misses the real Spike. The message here: don't try to change the person you love.
        7. The ending's entirely up to you. Does Buffy get to take her wish back and get a happy ending? Or is she stuck with what she's got and it becomes major angst? Or something completely different altogether?

    Extras:

        1. Give New!And!Improved!Spike an ultra-posh apartment complete with one of those huge, round beds. Buffy should be damn awed by the apartment.
        2. New!And!Improved!Spike criticizing Buffy for doing something that used to be one of the 'bad' habits of his that she removed.
        3. A game of pool. Preferrably with Xander involved.
        4. Buffy gets jealous of the fact that New!And!Improved!Spike is a better friend to the Scoobies than she is.
        5. Giles in neon-colored socks. There must be a reasonable explanation for this one.
        6. As much humor as you can manage - especially in showing how Spike's changed.

#2. My Stepdad's A Vampire

Requirements:

Setting: Any time post-Once More With Feeling

    Pairing: B/S eventually.

Length: Whatever you want, but it'll probably have to be a longer fic to get in all the story requirements.

    Basic Plot Elements:

        1. A while back, Buffy had a choice to make: Spike or some human guy that could give her an ordinary life (can be an original character or one on the show). Buffy finally chose the ordinary life, and Spike left town in response.
        2. Buffy got pregnant by normal guy before they married. Normal guy turned out to be a negligent dad and left her.
        3. Now Spike's come back to find Buffy pregnant/with a child. Spike's just pissed that normal guy left her, but Buffy's really freaked out that he'll go psycho and try to hurt her baby as well.
        4. The baby must be a girl. At some point, Buffy has to catch Spike alone with the baby and freak out. His response: "I just had to look into her eyes to know that she's a Summers woman. She's not that wanker's, luv; she's yours. So how could you possibly believe I'd ever want to hurt her?"
        5. And, through it all, the Buffy/Spike romance has to bloom anew with Spike now helping her to raise the baby.
        6. Absolutely, under no circumstances can Spike get Buffy pregnant. The girl is it.

    Extras:

        1. Dawn wanted Buffy to choose Spike all along. Now that he's back, she's convinced that he's still good and tries to sway Buffy in his direction once more.
        2. Buffy confessing that she never loved the baby's father; she was in love with Spike at the time that she made her choice but was influenced by her friends' opinions in the matter.
        3. Have Xander still be around and find a reasonable way to make him not seem like a villain.
        4. The father of Buffy's kid returns. Spike is chipless, yet doesn't kill him. Make it all seem in character.

#3. "Spike is so cool!" ~ Andrew, Entropy

Requirements:

Setting: S7, any time during the period when Spike and Andrew are both at Buffy's house.

Pairing: None...well, maybe Andrew fantasizing about Andrew/Spike.

    Length: Short ficlet.

    Basic Plot Elements:

Just a funny short story where Andrew's *ahem* interest in Spike becomes obvious to the vamp, and Spike naturally gets freaked out. I want typical goofy Andrew-ness, and getting Spike to hide from him is an extra plus. Bonus points for having Xander tell Spike: "Ha! It's not so funny when you're on the receiving end of all the homoerotic comments, now, is it?" I don't want actual slash here; just plenty of wacky humor.

#4. Twenty Women; One Shower - You Do The Math

Requirements:

Setting: S7, during that period when way, way too many people are living in Buffy's house.

Pairing: Whatever you want as long as it fits the rest of the requirements.

    Length: Shortish.

    Basic Plot Elements:

There are many, many women living in Buffy's house in S7. And there's only one bathroom. Thus, humor should abound, am I right? I want a story where people keep "accidentally" walking in on each other in the shower. Maybe there's supposed to be some master plan about who gets the shower when or something, and everyone gets confused. Just make sure to have some funny walk-ins. Here are my suggestions, but feel free to come up with your own:

   Andrew walks in on Xander
One of the SiTs walks in on Andrew
Spike walks in on one of the SiTs
   Anya walks in on Spike
   Willow walks in on Anya
   Kennedy walks in on Willow
Giles walks in on anyone female

Make everyone act embarrassed/flirty/whatever's in character. Squeeze as much humor out of the situation as you can get. ~_^

#5. Buffy vs. Ho Biscuit
Submitted by Kella

Requirements:

    Setting: During S6 Hell's Bells.

    Pairing: B/S. NC17 eventually.

    Length: Medium/long.

    Basic Plot Elements:

        1. Dawn tells Buffy that Spike brought Ho Biscuit to the wedding.
        2. Buffy avoids Spike for a while, being intensely jealous of the pair, to the point that the Scoobs notice something is up.
        3. Buffy and Spike have the requisite "Radioactive dress" conversation, but Spike doesn't leave. He goes to the bar instead.
        4. Buffy and Ho Biscuit confront each other while Spike's at the bar. H.B. rags on Buffy, saying "no wonder Spike dumped your vanilla ass" or something like that, goes on to "describe" things that she and Spike have supposedly done (bedroom activities), none of which are true, but get Buffy pissed anyway.
        5. Cut to different scene, or several scenes later, if you want... Buffy attempts all-out slayage on Ho Biscuit in front of the whole assembly in the middle of the chapel. Have Clem watch with a deadpan expression, then abruptly turn to the guy with the tentacles on his face and say "See, that's the thing about Slayers... They're hazardous to your health, but they're great fun at parties..."
        6. Have Spike watch drunkenly as Buffy attempts to slay his date before stepping in and breaking up the mess. Informs Buffy that H.B. is human, Buffy doesn't care and proceeds with attempted murder. They have it out in front of all the guests, before Buffy stakes (lol no pun intended) her claim on Spike and macks on him in front of everyone, to Spike's immense surprise.
        7. Buffy and Spike get it on in the back room of the chapel.
        8. Whether or not Xanya get hitched is up to the author.

    Extras:

        1. Spike singing a drunken rendition of "Makin' Whoopee" to placate the guests at the chapel while the Scoobs look for Xander.
        2. Spike and Mr. Harris "bonding" over alcohol (LOTS of alcohol) at the bar.
        3. Buffy musing to Willow on whether slaying the Ho Biscuit in the chapel will damn her to an actual hell dimension this time...
        4. Willow assessing Ho Biscuit from afar (either to herself or talking to someone else) as to whether or not she's a candidate for lesbianism. Gives up and moves on to making moon-eyes at Tara again.
        5. Mrs. Harris asking Ho Biscuit if she's Circus Folk too.
        6. Halfrek's wedding present getting loose and chasing Dawn around the chapel with Dawn doing her "get out, getout, GETOUT!" scream.

REALLY want to see this challenge done! LOL

#6. Twice Slain or Triple Spiked

Wow, here's a challenge I wrote so long ago that even *I* forgot about it. It originally appeared at the end of 'Double Spiked', so you *know* it's got to be good. ~_^ The challenge:

Requirements:

Setting: Completely up to the author.

    Pairing: S/B/B or B/S/S/S. Hardcore NC17.

    Length: Whatever works.

    Basic Plot Elements:

"OK, I know there are other B/S writers out there who have read this. And I think someone really has to write a S/B/B fic some day. After all, how fair is it that Buffy gets two Spikes, but Spike never gets two Buffys? ~_^ Alternatively, B/S/S/S could be fun, too..."

#7. The Drifter
Submitted by Casey

Requirements:

    Setting: AU - 1878.

Pairing: S/?  You can have Spike with either 17 year old Buffy or 16 year old Dawn

    Length: Medium to Long.

    Basic Plot Elements:

        1. Spike arrives in a town (whatever you wanna call it).  He's a drifter and after traveling for some time, he decides to spend the night in the Town's Inn.
        2. Spike is the only person who's been to the Inn in quite some time so the Inn's hosts decide to question Spike and find out some info on him: What's his name?  How he got it?  What's life as a drifter?  Friendly chat.
        3.  Spike finds out that the two hosts, Joyce and Giles (they're married), have two daughters; Buffy and Dawn.  Buffy and Dawn come back home from late that night after getting some firewood.  They tell Giles and Joyce about how they heard rumors of a gang coming to attack their village.
        4. Spike overhears the conversation and decides to leave town early in the morning before to avoid getting himself into this mess.
        5. The Village is attacked that night and Spike fights off the gang attacking the Inn, as payback for Giles/Joyce letting him spend the night.  Giles, Joyce, Dawn and Buffy find out that Spike is one of a few remainning samurais and beg him to help their town.
        6. Spike first declines to help, saying he doesn't want to get involved in other people's affairs, but he soon changes his mind.  (The gang that attacked earlier already want Spike dead for killing some of their 'friends' during the attack on the Inn. Spike's love interest, whether it be Dawn or Buffy, convinces him to help by saying how Samurais have honor and help the needed, or something like that.)
        7. The village is attacked again the next night and after the battle is over he realizes that if he wants to help the town he's going to need backup so he trains the men in the village a few sword/fighting techniques.
        8. The ending's up to you. Does Spike save the village or die trying?  Does he end up staying in the town with his love interest or does he continue life as a drifter?  If so does his love interest stay in the village or decide to leave with him?  Or something completely different altogether?
        9. Story must be either R or NC-17 rated, hopefully NC-17.

    Extras:

        1. Dawn and Buffy develop a huge crush on Spike as soon the they are introduced to him and have a little sibling rivalry to capture Spike's eye.
        2. If Buffy and Dawn have a sibling rivalry, you can have them pull pranks on each other to embarrass the other in front of Spike, but Spike has to accidently fall into one of the pranks.
        3. The bad guys can be either demons (vampires, etc.) or humans (the government, bandits, evil samurai, ninjas, a rival village, etc.)
        4. The women of the village all have the hots for Spike and go out of their way to impress him.
        5. Spike gets drunk.

        -Casey DeVargas

Additional Note from Kantayra: I absolutely adore the Kurasawa Samurai movies! Someone absolutely has to do this one. Another variation of this idea that pops to mind is to set a story similar to this is the Old West, ala 'The Magificent Seven' (which was, of course, originally an adaptation of Kurasawa's 'The Magnificent Samurai'). In either case, if you needed an AU idea, this is it! ~_^

#8. Making Amends

Requirements:

Setting: An alternate reality set after the S5 finale 'The Gift' in which Buffy never dies.

    Pairing: B/S. Aren't they all? ~_^

Length: Whatever you want, but it'll probably have to be a longer fic to get in all the story requirements.

    Basic Plot Elements:

        1. The episode 'The Gift' ends slightly differently. Everything is the same until the point when Buffy kills the Doc. (So, Spike falls off the tower and all that.) However, Buffy manages to stop Dawn from bleeding. (Either she kills Doc before he cuts Dawn, or she has the common sense catch the blood with something so that it doesn't open up the portal.) Anyway you do it, Buffy doesn't die as a result of the final battle with Glory, and she and Dawn and everyone else make it out OK.
        2. However, Spike considers himself to have completely failed Buffy because Doc got the best of him. He becomes withdrawn, depressed, drunk... You know, the usual.
        3. The catch is that Buffy's just starting to fall in love with him. He won major kudos for helping with the Glory business, and Buffy's starting to see him in a new light and so are her friends. But all her attempts to try to draw Spike into the group and her life fail because Spike's still beating himself up. He's willing to help with the slaying, but he doesn't think he's worthy of the sudden kindness he's been getting.
        4. Eventually, Spike's being so hopeless that Buffy calls Angel. In this phone conversation, it must be revealed that a) Buffy's now in love with Spike, and b) Angel's now in love with Cordy. Both Buffy and Angel must accuse each other of being out of their minds for their bizarre choices of love interests. And then they can't help but laugh at themselves for their strangely parallel ridiculous situations. The conversation ends up pleasantly, and Buffy and Angel both agree to get on with their lives already. ~_^
        5. Angel gives Buffy a particularly juicy tip in wooing Spike. What is it? Why, that's for you to decide, but make it good. ^_^
        6. Show Buffy winning Spike over, convincing him he did good, all that fun stuff. There need to be more light and funny stories out there.
        7. Willow is, under no circumstances, addicted to magical crack or some such nonsense. ~_^ You might want some sort of Big Bad in this story, but it can't be Willow. Or any of the other Scoobies. Or Angel.
        8. If you decide to get this far, don't turn Xander and Anya's wedding into an angst-fest.
        9. Giles leaving or staying is up to you.

    Extras:

        1. Either Willow or Tara nursing Spike's wounds while Buffy and Xander rush Dawn and Anya to the hospital. Whichever of the witches (or both) helps Spike eventually becomes his confidante and helps to try to explain to Buffy why Spike's suddenly got such cold feet. There just aren't enough good friendship moments in fics these days. ^_^
        2. Buffy 'tricking' Spike into a date in imitation of his own behavior back in 'Crush'. Spike is baffled as to whether he's reading too much into the situation or not. Whether he tries to call Buffy on it is up to you.
        3. Anya tries to give Buffy seduction tips. She then goes on to praise the sexual prowess of vampires, all in her typically blunt and graphic manner. Xander claims to be traumatized for life by hearing the words 'Spike' and 'sex' in the same sentence.
        4. Buffy tells the rest of the Scoobies about Angel and Cordy. They all think it's hilarious and burst out laughing, except Tara who demands clarification on who Cordy is. Tara's conclusion: "One of these days I'm going to have to actually meet these people. Even if it's only to find out why this is so funny."
        5. Upon Buffy's decision that she's in love with Spike, Dawn promptly gives her the "See, I told you he was hot!" speech.
        6. Extra bonus points for somehow fitting Buffybot in. ~_^
        7. Add whatever funny scenes you can.
        8. Oh, and smut's always nice. ~_^

#9. The First - 1; Nerds - 0

Requirements:

Setting: Prior (or during) the S7 episode 'First Date'.

    Pairing: Probably none explicitely.

    Length: Shortish.

    Basic Plot Elements:

I want to read a scene where Andrew, Willow, Dawn, et al. are planning to hook Andrew up with the wire when he talks to the First. I want to know who came up with this idea. I want to see it blossom into their big, ridiculous plan. I want to see complete nerdiness driving them on. Because the combined nerdiness or Andrew, Willow, and Dawn? Hilarious. ^_^ I want to laugh my ass off. I want numerous references to silly sci-fi/action type stuff as our heroes all plot together. Not asking for much, am I? ~_^

#10. The Things I Dream Of
Submitted by Beth

Requirements:

Setting: Any time post-'As You Were'.

Pairing: S/B. Although not necessarily romantically together.

    Length: Whatever you want.

    Basic Plot Elements:

        1. Buffy starts having intense dreams after her breakup with Spike. They can be cryptic Slayer type dreams or the plot of the story itself turns out to be a dream in the end.
        2. Spike must die in the dreams, either from suicide because of Buffy, or self sacrifice because of her.
        3. Buffy must feel guilty about the dreams.
        4. Spike has to give Buffy one of his famous "I love you" speeches. Can be in the dream or in reality.
        5. Buffy must learn a lesson from her dream(s). It could be that she was wrong to treat Spike the way she did, or it could be that she loves him.
        6. You can decide if you want the dreams to come true or not.
        7. Dawn wakes Buffy up from one of her dreams. She could hear her yelling in her sleep or she could just wake her up for breakfast.
        8. The dream(s) should have a guide. It can be someone who has passed away (i.e. Joyce) or someone who is alive (i.e. Willow, Giles, Tara, etc.).

    Extras:

        1. One part of the dream must see Spike in the daylight.
        2. Buffy lets Spike know what she found out.
        3. Dawn reveals she knew about Buffy and Spike but didn't say anything.

Seventh Slayer Fanfiction Challenges:

#1. Continue Ajaya's Seventh Slayer Story!

This challenge has been taken by Aaron McKendry.
Check out his response, below.

"Ajaya the Vampire Slayer" by Aaron McKendry - The official continuation of Ajaya's Seventh Slayer story in Japan. Set in the year 2058, Ajaya the Vampire Slayer is one of the newest operatives of SCBI Tokyo. *WIP, CH3 new, begun April 2003* PG13
Prologue ~ Chapter One ~ Chapter Two ~ Chapter Three

Visit Aaron's fanfiction site hosting his Sunnydale Series

#2. Write Your Own Seventh Slayer Story!

Requirements:

Setting: Any time in the Seventh Slayer universe.

Pairing: Anything in keeping with what we know about the Seventh Slayer universe.

    Length: Any length.

    Basic Plot Elements:

If there's anything you wanted to use any of my characters for, here's your chance. Everything else is up to you... (Note: This challenge should in no way be taken as a way to make other people do my work for me. ~_^)

#3. Lily's Past...

Requirements:

Setting: When Willow and Aida are both decently aged adults, say 30-to-40-ish. SCBI already exists.

Pairing: Anything in keeping with what we know about the Seventh Slayer universe.

Length: Any length, although shorter is preferrable.

    Basic Plot Elements:

Explain how Willow and Aida came to adopt Lily. All we know about this situation was that Lily was young enough that Willow and Aida named her. So, still a baby. Who were Lily's real parents? (Since, you know, Willow and Aida obviously can't biologically have kids...) What happened to them, and why did Lily end up in our favorite witches' care?

    Extras:

Maybe Lily's magical skills are somehow hereditary or somehow tied up in this story. She is fully human, though.

#4. Vamp-on-Vamp Kissage (Heh...)

Requirements:

Setting: In the past of the Seventh Slayer universe, back before SCBI when everyone's still living on the Sunnydale Hellmouth. Before Buffy gets vamped but after Spike loses his soul again. So, maybe theoretical S8 or 9-ish. Remember that S7 did not occur in this universe.

Pairing: Um...Nicolas/Spike, only not really. ~_^ Can have a Buffy/Spike element if you want to set this after they get back together.

    Length: Should be rather short-ish.

    Basic Plot Elements:

Explain this rather odd quote from Nicolas in Chapter 9 of The Seventh Slayer:

“I’ve gotten more romantic kisses from Spike, actually…which is a very bizarre story involving a dog, some celery, five fledgling vampires, and way too much liquor…”
Okay, so come up with a reasonable back-story to account for all this. And, yes, you do have to include the celery. ~_^

       1. Spike is sort of a pseudo-Sire to Nicolas, but Nicolas isn't so obedient. (Heh. A chip off the old block. Or he would be if Spike was actually his Sire...) Spike's trying to get Nicky to actually act like a vampire; Nicky's sort of a yuppy-California-guy type. Humorous conflict ensues.
       2. Some logical reason behind why they're kissing, i.e. nothing homoerotic (well, slashy; I guess two guys kissing automatically has a homoerotic element, doesn't it? ~_^) and nothing so simple as 'they were just drunk'. Come up with a nice, contorted explanation. ^_^
       3. Buffy catches them in the act. If she's not with Spike yet, she's jealous. If she is with Spike, she gets her vamp kissage back. In either case, she determines that two sexy vampires kissing is hot. ~_^
       4. As much goofy humor as you can get out of the situation.

    Extras:

        1. Have some of the liquor involved come from Willy's. Extra bonus for Spike getting Nicky into a bar fight.
        2. Spike studiously determining which nickname annoys Nicolas the most and finally concluding that it's 'Nicky'. Hence, why everyone calls Nicky this in perpetuity throughout the universe. ~_^
        3. Clem. I don't care when, I don't care how, but there's no story that can't be improved with a guest appearance by Clem. ^_^

Fanart Challenges:

#1. Spuffy Lovin'

Requirements:

Manipulation/drawing/etc. where Buffy and Spike are obviously, um...together in the image. In a not-suitable for younger viewers way, if you know what I mean. ~_^ Doesn't have to be pornographic in the slighest (clothes are allowed) as long as the connection is implied.

I would say you can't steal anything, but...hey, the whole purpose of this page is for you to take these ideas, so this whole copyright thing is kinda pointless, isn't it? Ah well... Please, take these ideas! Create beautiful Spuffiness with them! ~_^
