The Sure Word of God
By Pastor Randy Barnett
“But as God is faithful, our word to you was not Yes and No.
For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you
by us – by me,
Silvanus, and Timothy – was not Yes and No, But in Him was
Yes.
For the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen,
to the glory of God through us.

This dynamic passage gives to us who have believed
in Jesus Christ a profound truth that we need.
It is a truth that will destroy disappointment and discouragement that
can arise in us when we do not see God’s biblical promises happen for us. Many Christians become disappointed with God
and with His word because they cannot seem to get His promises to work for
them. Let’s establish one thing before
we get too far in this study, and that is: God is faithful and the Word of
God is true. Let us never question these two truths. To do so will undermine any hopes of ever
experiencing His promised blessings.
Read and meditate on our text verse above. Essentially, Paul the Apostle is addressing
the problem in the Corinthian church of the saints feeling like his word was
uncertain to them. He was trying to establish confidence in them, not only
toward him as their spiritual father, but also toward God who called him and
gave him as a gift to them. His primary
goal in this particular passage is to do as all good ministers attempt to do,
and that is to develop in the people of God an absolute confidence in them
toward God and His Word. That is what
must happen in you.
You are probably like most of us in that there is something in
your life you have been believing for and have yet to see it manifest. It may be a financial breakthrough, a
physical healing, that spouse for whom you have asked God, or the salvation of
a loved one. You have petitioned God
and tried your best to believe, but you just can’t seem to get there from
here. Do not despair because help is on
the way for you! That help is in the
form of truth. Knowledge of truth sets you free.
(John 8:32)
Before you can see the breakthrough you desire, one thing must
happen within you – you must settle the issue of God’s faithfulness. No
matter what you have experienced in the past or what others have told you about
God or even what you have been taught in church, this issue is something you
must personally settle. When you do,
you have taken the first step toward your miracle.
The biggest obstacle you face right now is not the devil or
the odds that seemingly are stacked against you for the miracle; your greatest
and most powerful enemy is carnal thinking. Carnal (earthly) thinking is
literally thinking like the world.
Spiritual thinking is thinking like God thinks. I wonder which of these will get the results
you desire?
Look at what Paul writes in Romans 12:2
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good
and
acceptable and perfect will of God.”
What does he focus our
attention on in this verse? Is it not
our thinking? Apparently the way we think makes the difference in whether or
not we see the perfect will of God done in our life, just as the verse states. Therefore, it behooves us to change the way
we think.
Carnal thinking says, “Oh well, that’s just my luck, I’ll
never see God answer my prayer!” or it may say, “Good things happen to everyone
else; I never have seen a miracle in my life.”
You are conditioned to think this way by being in the world and by being
influenced to think like the world.
This must change if you are to experience the will of God, which is the
manifestation of His promises.
Here is what you must do.
First of all, clearly identify what you need from God. Be specific. Write it down in the form of a petition prayer. This sets the goal you are trying to
gain. Next, find Scripture verses that
promise you what you have written down as your goal. May I recommend at least four or five. Write these promises down on a single sheet of paper; make copies
of this page and place one in your Bible, one on your nightstand, one in your
car, and one at your workplace. What you are doing is arming yourself with the
power to change your mind.
The Word of God is powerful. (Hebrews 4:12) Each time you declare one of those promises, you literally engage the awesome power of Almighty God! He has said that whatever He speaks will do exactly what He intended for it do accomplish! (Isaiah 55:11) Each time you hear yourself declare the truth of God’s Word, something happens inside of you – you become conformed to what you say. As this happens, faith increases. (Romans 10:17) With each anointed word you speak, your mind becomes a little more like God. You are casting off doubt and unbelief in the process. His words that flow out of your mouth are going out to do His perfect will, which is to give you what you desire. Be diligent to continue until you see the miracle. I promise you will experience that miracle from God! (Galatians 6:9) I rejoice with you ahead of time over your miracle! Hallelujah! Thank You Jesus!
