Review: "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl"

I was very impressed with "Pirates". If you haven't seen the previews for it or the movie, you're probably figuring that it is just about the Disneyland ride - in a way it is (the name, for one) and that it has pirates in it (that's a big "Duh" right there). Keep an eye out for the 'dog with the key' (the one in the prison holding the key in it's mouth near the pirate-filled cell). They probably threw that in there for laughs, and succeeded because it was funny. But there is a twist to the Pirates...let's just say that they aren't your typical swashing and buckling pirates. It's a pretty good family movie, but I wouldn't recommend it for children under 9 years old. They probably wouldn't get a lot of the themes and jokes in the film. Starring in "Pirates": Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom (the blond elf Legolas from "The Lord of the Rings", and Geoffrey Rush (who has been in a lot of movies). Producer: Jerry Bruckheimer (CSI and CSI: Miami), Directed by Gore Verbinski (2002's "The Ring"). Overall: 4.5/ 5 stars
