Spain

After all that time in Greece, I needed a vacation!! So I went to London for a few days to see friends and then flew to Barcelona. A co-worker from the Inn, also named Cathy, was on holiday at the same time so she joined me! I do not speak a word of Spanish and neither does she, so it was an adventure. Honestly, it was the first time that I felt unable to communicate in a foreign country. We stayed in a small pension (a cheap hotel with shared toilets) near the major street of La Ramblas. It was always full of people and we enjoyed just wandering up and down the street. We also took every single small lane in the area because the best (and cheapest) restaurants are on side streets. The best kind of meal to eat is tapas - where you order six or seven small dishes between yourselves and share. It's inexpensive and you get a lot more variety that just ordering one thing. November is not my recommened month for Spain, it was chilly and clouded over almost the whole time. I'm sure it's much better in the summer months.

On La Ramblas

This street was simply amazing to see with the number of performers. On the left are two men who played music for money. Notice the bunny in the money box and the small dog too. The bunny would hop all over the wheelchair but never far from either of the men, it was so adorable (and probably how they made so much money). On the right is a french fries vending machine - which to this day amazes me! No, we didn't try them! You can get ketchup, mayo or vinegar as toppings, how strange is that??

Montserat

Cathy and I took a day trip to Montserat, know for it's statue of the Virgin Mary. A LONG time ago, some boys had a vision and then found the statue in a cave. Now there's a church built around the cave and a very long line to get to the statue itself (I touched it and said a prayer like everyone else!). Set high up in the mountains, there was an amazing view. Or would've been one if it hadn't been so cloudy! On the left is a view from way above (a tram ride up) looking down on the town and on the right is the church itself.

Gaudi and beer

Gaudi is an artist whose work you cannot miss if in Barcelona. Everything at Gaudi park, seen here, is done in mosaic, right down to the very last detail. It's a sight to behold. And on the right is Cathy and I at Molly Malones pub where we had a few drinks a few nights in a row.
