Have you ever heard the sound

Have you ever heard the sound of copper screaming
As it’s ripped from the hands of a mother who’s needing
As she peddles her daughters for tomorrow’s high
Not knowing if today’s the day she’s gonna die
Have you ever heard the sound?

Have you ever heard the sound of heart that’s breaking
From the fist that provides the love it’s taking
As the pain tells her she’s alive she’s no longer thinking
About the blood on her hands that’s drip drop dripping
And a needle that’s laying on the ground
Have you ever heard the sound?

Have you ever heard the sound of a hungry child eating
From the garbage bins full of yesterdays feedings
Fighting for the scraps from the rats that are scrambling
To ease the hunger rumble pain that they’re feeling
Have you ever heard the sound?

Have you ever heard the sound of tears as they’re falling
Made by news that nothing’s ever changing
No hope for the future – the life they’d been dreaming
The streaks on the cheeks of the dream they’re not living
Have you ever heard the sound?

Have you ever heard the sound of a gut when it’s wrenching
Pierced by a bullet from a thug that was fleeing
From a cop on the take pissed of cause he’s being
Shafted on a dime bag with a nickel in his hand
He runs by screaming as you lay there bleeding
Red bubbles in your mouth
Have you ever heard the sound?

Have you ever heard the sound of the last breath gasping
The hands counting down every tick tock ticking
Down to the line it’s not the thought you been thinking
The bright light tunnel it’s not angels that you’re seeing
It’s a heat you ain’t felt as the world starts crackling
And you can smell the flesh burning all around
As the terror’s coming down
Have you ever heard the sound?
