"Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer
rated death in women. The American Cancer Society estimated 25,400 new
cases of ovarian cancer in 1998, with 14,500 deaths." -WCN
This page is both a Reference Site
for Ovarian Cancer, and a Tribute to Melissa Kravetz, the
strongest and most amazing woman I have ever known.
On October 30th 1999 at approximately 2pm Melissa passed away.
She is greatly missed by everyone she knew.

Facts About Ovarian Cancer
- Ovarian cancer most frequently affects older women, the incidence
increasing significantly at time of menopause.
- While it is relatively rare in young women, there is a peak incidence
in the mid-50s, with rates increasing more slowly after that.
- Generally speaking, ovarian cancer is more common in industrialized
countries, particularly in Europe and the United States.
- Notable exceptions to this are the relatively low, but increasing
rates, seen in Japan, Italy and Spain.
- Unlike the Pap test used as a screen for cervical cancer, there is no
widely available screening test for ovarian cancer.
- Much of the high mortality associated with ovarian cancer can be
attributed to the lack of specific symptoms of early disease.
