Magical Menagerie
Looking for an owl as you shop for Hogwarts, you enter a shop full of strange sounds and bright colors called the Magical Menagerie. All around you you see magical animals.
Bright orange double-ended newts fight their opposite ends over which gets to decide where to go.
Purple toads ribbit at you beseechingly. It seems as if they want to be returned to their rightful color. "We have a sale on those," says the wizardess who owns the store from behind you. "Overstocking. Mistakes in a Prince Charming Charm."
A breeze ruffles through as another customer (a tall, thin wizard in red velvet robes with curling black hair and a superior sneer) enters, causing the blowflies to fill up with air and float towards the ceiling.
A magnificent jeweled tortoise catches your eye as it glints in the sun. "They're rhinestones, my dear," says the wizardess.
You turn away from the tortoise reluctantly and a tank of neon-orange snails draws you nearer. You reach down to pick one up and it bears some unexpectedly large fangs at you. You pull your hand away quickly.
A white rabbit changes into a top hat with a pop! As you blink the hat becomes a pair of doves, which fly into the air and scatter to the floor as a deck of cards.
Perplexed, you look down at your feet to gather up the, uh, rabbit and notice a sleek black cat rubbing against your legs. You pick it up and it purrs as you scratch its ears, then dives out of your arms at a cage of ravens across the room.
You notice a pile of furballs in the corner. Thinking they're some type of cat toy, you walk up to them for closer inspection, and see that they're alive.
By the counter where the wizardess sits you see a cage of black rats. Two of them nurse tail injuries they got from a game of jumprope they had been playing, while the rest engage in a well-organized game of Capture the Flag.
You realize this isn't the place to get owls, and head outside to Eeylops Owl Emporium. As you walk past the front of the store, you wave goodbye to an overly excited niffler tied to the door. He sniffles dejectedly as you walk away, so you return to give him a cheering pat. He sniffs you appreciatively, and you walk away. It is not until you have picked your owl and are about to buy it that you realize he stole your money bag.
