Welcome to Missy’s Reef Tank Page. This site is devoted to my wife’s 75-gallon reef tank (which I take care of!). We have enjoyed pretty good success with a live sand filtration system (slightly modified Joebert method). The live rock is all Northern Gulf which is not available any more. Most of our corals have thrived and a few (the pulsating Xenia) are trying to take over the tank. We just got a Bak Pak II in-sump protien skimmer. We also have a hot tub UV ozonator to kill the undesirables (such as ick). We use a combination lighting system consisting of one 5500 metal halide bulb, one 48” blue actinic fluorescent and one 48” Aqua-sun 10,000K fluorescent. We use timers to simulate dawn and dusk with only the fluorescent lights.
***Anyone in the New Orleans area who would like to trade for some pulsating Xenia please contact us. We would love to get some props of other corals and have had a great deal of success with Xenias.***
