The Elder

The tired warriors sat around a camp fire. The battle scared Aramis stared at the fire in a daze.

"Those warriors were sent to kill you," Morpheus said, "But apparantly they were afraid of us."

Belatrix looked up at the rising full moon. It was only four in the evening, so that was odd. "Why is it night already?"

"It's Blackwell," Morpheus replied. "As he gets more strong, the darker the world becomes."

Aramis stands up in pain and walks away from the group.

"What's wrong," Magnus asked.

Aramis said nothing and stared at the surrounding forest.

"We must carry on," Morpheus said, "we should sleep soon so we can get up early." Morpheus looked at Aramis. "You need sleep the most."

"What if I don't want to sleep," Aramis said. "What if I just want to leave."

Belatrix and Magnus looked at Morpheus. Morpheus said nothing.

Aramis continued. "There's so much pressure. For a long time I have cared about people's well being, and they threw it away. They consider me an outcast and a freak. Sometimes they make it hard to care about them. Going from nothing to savior of the world is a hard thing to cope with." He turned his head upward toward the moon. Pain shot through his neck. Aramis crinched. "I can't take this." He walks off quickly into the forest.

"Aramis!" Morpheus shouted. "Come back!"

The others and Morpheus stared at the forest. There was only the silence of night as a responce.

"Please, Aramis, we need you," Morpheus said. "You're a Hero."

After a moment, a distant voice shouted, "Go it alone, I'm never coming back. I quit."

Morpheus stood still not knowing what to say. Aramis was just upset, but would following him make matters worse? It was prophecized Aramis was to destroy the darkness. But now what. Saddness began to overtake Morpheus.

MORPHEUS SANG:

A World Without Heroes MIDI

A world without heroes

Is like a world without sun

You can't look up to anyone

Without heroes

.

And a world without heroes

Is like a never ending race

Is like a time without a place

A pointless thing devoid of grace

.

Where you don't know what you're after

Or if something's after you

And you don't know why you don't know

In a world without heroes

.

In a world without dreams

Things are no more than they seem

And a world without heroes

Is like a bird without wings

Or a bell that never rings

Just a sad and useless thing

.

Where you don't know what you're after

Or if something's after you

And you don't know why you don't know

.

Aramis stopped for a moment and listened to Morpheus words. His body hurt, he was tired and just wanted to get away, but what was he to do. He started walking again. Morpheus looked and could see the distant hills. Aramis' sillouette could be seen as he walked on top of a hill. The moon behind him outlined his body. He stopped and looked back at the camp. Hope grew in Morpheus' heart, then Aramis walked off into the night. Soon Morpheus could no longer see him.

.

In a world without heroes

There's nothing to be

It's no place for me

.

A single tear rolled down Morpheus face.
