The next day Aramis stepped out onto the deck. The sun was bright and the sky a bright blue. It was a pretty day. Morpheus stood next to the ship's captain talking. Aramis walked over to them and listened.
"Well, that'll cost a little extra," the captain said. "You never said anything about taking you to the Island of the Elder."
Aramis looked surprised. Morpheus hadn't discussed them going to see the council.
"That's no problem," Morpheus replied. "I can pay you whatever you need." Money was no big deal to him and he had plenty of it.
Morpheus looked at Aramis. "Are you ready to learn something new today?"
"Sure," Aramis replied.
Morpheus walked out onto the center of the ship. He sat down on some wooden crates.
"I want you to read my mind," Morpheus said.
"What? I can't do that."
"Of coarse you can, you have latent abilities that you have to traine to work. You already use alot of your psychic power without realizing it. I want you to clear your mind. Listen to all the sounds around us. See everything. Let your body feel all parts of itself. Use your sense of smell. Taste that foulness in your mouth from where it is not clean."
Aramis smiled, "Hey, my breath doesn't stink."
"I threw that in to make sure you were paying attention. Know... do all those things and tell me what you pick up."
Aramis stood still and cleared his mind. It was a rather weird experience to let all five senses come into play. He stood aware. Suddenly he heard in his mind, want something to eat?
Morpheus smiled and said, "Well, do you?"
Aramis looked surprised and smiled, "Wow, I actually picked you up in my mind."
"Good," Morpheus smiled, "we may need this skill when we go into battle. I will communicate telepathicly when the times are needed."
Aramis nodded.
"Now," Morpheus said, "tell me some thoughts. Mr. Blackwell will use your fears to attack you mentally and phsically."
"Well, I'm afraid that I won't have the answers to figure out what to do when we finally meet him. I'm afraid there may be some darkness in me he may use against me. Tell me how to deal with this."
Morpheus suddenly stops laughing. He grabs for a dagger with lightening speed and hurls it upward. It flies up quickly and hits a black raven which was sitting upon a massflank watching.
The raven hits the deck with a thump.
"Why'd you do that?" Aramis asked.
"Look at its eyes." Morpheus said picking up the dagger which was still in the bird. He held it up for inspection. "They're glass. This is a spy from Mr. Blackwell. We must be careful and watch our backs."
