25 gallon tank #1

Because this tank was intended to be a planted tank, I did things differently than every other tank I've had. I followed a lot of the suggestions I saw on various fish websites, but I also did things my way.

The substrate in this tank is 2 inches of vermiculite with some peat mixed in, covered by 30lb of flourite. Some people will complain it's expensive (It can be had online for $13/15lb bag or $20/bag in the stores), but it's worked miracles. I don't have to fertilize the plants (the fish do that themselves), and they grow like crazy. Actually - the plants would probably grow even crazier if I fed them, but I have enough trouble trimming them regularly as it is.

The lighting on this tank is a custom hood with 4 24" flourescent bulbs. (1 Daylight, 1 Plant Bulb, 1 Fish bulb (eek, expen$ive), and one other bulb) Because there's such a high level of light 80W/25 gallons (3.2W/G) plants do quite well.      I don't currently have many fish in the tank. I had some honey gouramies, but 1 was asassinated, and the other 2 wasted away. I'm planning on adding a bunch of neon tetras, some more lemons, and a clown loach sometime in the future.
This tank currently has:

I'm going to be adding (in somewhat the order i'll be getting them)
