Power Outage

Who would have thought that something could occur to get nearly every Christian to back down from doing what God said until they get permission? And the main culprit: germs.

Wow.

It’s remarkable when you read about all forms of persecution through hundreds of years and the church has survived, and now faced with a pandemic, we cower in fear and retreat.
I’m not just talking about suspending Sunday services, because some will argue that the church isn’t a building- it’s the people. Ok well then what are these people doing? As far as I can see they are doing exactly the same thing as unbelievers are. So I began to try and figure out the disconnect, and what I see is this: The Christian community has developed a bad habit. They have eliminated most of the supernatural from their practice. It looks nothing like the documented happenings we find in the Bible.

There are a lot of reasons why people would reject Christianity, but I think the main one that no one is talking about is that we have a form of godliness by deny the real power of God. If we were demonstrating God’s power, there would be a lot less skepticism.

The inspired written record we have of church history is the book of Acts. You can’t tell me that those followers of God would have kept in their houses wearing masks if there was an outbreak of a virus. Why? Because they knew God could heal people and they demonstrated it. They had a Christianity that advanced. We have one that retreats. Why would we think that God wants the church to be something different today? Would anyone rather have the church of John Calvin’s day or the church of 20th century America as the model of normal christian living?

If you took a new convert that knew nothing about the Christian culture and locked him in a room with a Bible for a week, he would come out passionately in love with the Lord and believing that other Christians experience consistent miracles in their lives. It would take clever theologians to convince him differently.

What hope do you have to offer the non believer that they can’t get anywhere else?
