Accelerate Your Spiritual Growth
Through NLP

NLP is a system for creating a desired change in our lives. It follows the very simple formula: find out where you are now (what is your current state or situations), determine where you would like to be (what would you like to experience instead), and use the most appropriate resources to get there.

The field of NLP is rapidly expanding and more and more techniques and applications are added. The system was based through observation and modelling of people who have achieved outstanding accomplishments and through insight into the workings of our mind/brain and neurology.

The term neuro-linguistic programming refers to its utilization of both the language that we use and the physiology and the techniques effect the change through the use of our internal states and external behaviour.

NLP Presuppositions

Map is Not the Territory

In the above statement, territory represents the reality and map represents our perception of the reality, filtered through our own belief systems. Some NLP-ers have reversed the above statement into "Map does present the territory". In this statement a person's perception reflects the reality as seen through the eyes of that person. However, it still does not necessarily represent the reality as experienced through someone else.

The Meaning of Your Communication is the response you elicit

There may be a difference between what we intend to communicate and the response we get. The onus is on the communicator. If you don't elicit the response you intended, change the way you are communicating. The communication does not refer only to a verbal communication, it refers to creating any kind of desired effect either within oneself or within another.

Mind, Emotions and Body are Part of the Same System

Mind, emotions and body are interconnected and affect each other. Any change you create in any one of these affects the other two.

Language is a Secondary Representation of Experience

Language does not necessarily acurately describe an experience, since it is not the experience. Words that we use are arbitrary labels we choose to describe our experiences and they can have different meanings for different individuals.

The Law of Requisite Variety (Flexibility)

In any system of humans or machines, the element in the system with the widest range of choice will be the controlling element. Control in this context is the ability to influence the quality of your and/or other's experience. If what you are doing doesn't work for you, try something else. Be flexible.

You Have All the Resources You Need to Make Any Changes You Desire

Since you have access to your subjective experience, you have power to change your experience.

Experience Has a Structure

Anyone who has ever accomplished something (we would like to accomplish) has had an experience that can be broken down into its component parts, which can be modeled. This can save us a great deal of time wasted in trial and error.

The Highest Quality of Information is Behavioural

In other words, actions speak louder than words. People may say that they want one thing, but their behaviour may contradict what they are saying. (In NLP we call this incongruence.) When in doubt about the message the person is trying to convey, pay more attention to person's behaviour, rather than to the words.

Make a Distinction between the Behaviour and the Self

What a person does is not necessarily who the person is. A person failing to accomplish a certain task, does not make that person a failure. It may mean that the person didn't have the necessary knowledge or the motivation to accomplish it and may either change the way of approaching the task or reconsider if that is what the person really wants to do.

You Always Get Either Intervention or Information

There is no such thing as a failure. You always produce some result even if that is not what you originally intended. If you produce the result you intended that you have intervention. If you didn't produce the result you intended, than you have information about what did not work and may try something else.

Present Behaviour Represents the Best Choice for the Person

Whatever our behaviour, we always behave in the best way we know how based on our previous experience and understanding. If the behaviour is not useful we can always do what is necessary to change it.
