Meet The Superintendent

Rick Newbauer, a long-time veteran of the Springbrook Maintenance Department, is Springbrook's current superintendent. He is a graduate of Western Connecticut State University and is USGA Certified. Prior to coming to Springbrook he was Director of College Files at Bates College in Lewiston. Rick is an avid golfer, although his duties as superintendent have cut deeply into his playing time. When he is playing he admits, "I get distracted by monitoring the condition of the course." He currently carries a single digit handicap. He is a 6-time club champion at Springbrook, having won the title in 85, 87, 89, 90, 91, and 00.

When not on the course, Rick enjoys reading, working around the house, and traveling. He has traveled to Scotland and played The Old Course at St. Andrews, a dream of most golfers.

Springbrook's future is in very capable hands with Rick, who is planning a number of major improvements. "We want the course to be playable by golfers of all abilities." Continued improvements in conditioning, additional work on bunkers, and a number of other projects are under way. Owner and former superintendent Joe Golden says of Rick, "With Rick as superintendent, the course has been in the best condition that it has ever been. He is continually making improvements. I would rank Rick as one of the best in Maine."
