Welcome to the Coalition of Familes with Special Needs
web site. We are parents, grandparents, and caregivers united by
our love and concern of a special needs individual.
Together we are dedicated to making a difference in our local
community, state, and throughout the world. We believe that by
touching the life of one person, we can change the world for
generations to come.
Why was CFSN organized? Our battles have been to obtain some of the
simplest rights for our special needs loved ones. Adequate medical
treatment, education, and dignity are often just beyond their
reach. Too often the doors of opportunity and happiness are shut to
them. Too often those that should be helping to fight the battle
are over worked and underpaid. Too often family members stand by
expecting the "establishment" to know what is best, and then to do
it.
CFSN believes that we, as family members, are the strongest
advocates that our loved one will ever have. No other agency or
social worker understands the greatest needs, nor are they
dedicated to this one individual as we are. Through education and
training we can become a powerful tool in bringing effective change
into their lives. We are, "Opening doors... For a brighter
tomorrow!"
And so, we have united... We have each felt the same fear,
sorrow, pain, and guilt, then marveled as it turned into
understanding, joy, acceptance, and hope. We have each traveled
different paths. We have been separated by fear and isolation, yet
there is a single thread that runs through each of our lives and
binds us together as a family: a special needs individual.
We are a strong force for good! Together we can "Change the
world one person at a time!"
