The International Baccalaureate program of North Mecklenburg high school has been extremely successful in the five years it has been in session at North. Now the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education is considering moving the program from North to West Charlotte, a school located in some of the worst suburbs of Charlotte.
West Charlotte needs more programs like the I. B. program, but not at the expense of taking it away from North. I graduated from North last year with the I. B. diploma and am now a sophomore in college after only one semester, due to I. B. credits. North Mecklenburg is part of the high northern part of the county often ignored or overlooked by board members. The area is becoming increasingly crowded as more and more parents look for better opportunities to give their children. Students like me who live in Davidson, Cornelius, or Huntersville generally only have one choice about where they go to high school unless they travel far distances; students in Charlotte, on the other hand, usually have a wider selection of schools and can more easily reach a high school that provides needed opportunities such as the I. B. program.
The I. B. program has also been extremely successful at North Mecklenburg, ranking among the top of the Charlotte Mecklenburg high schools in scores. To move the program from North Mecklenburg to West Charlotte would be a grave mistake. The program is highly successful in its current location and it needs to stay there.
Please, please, please, if you're a graduate of North or of the I. B. program (or if you just want to make Mei-Mei happy) then write to the members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education below and tell them that the International Baccalaureate program needs to stay at North.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
