Now Church performs Williams' music in his live shows, including his Baltimore Festival performance at 9 p.m. Saturday. Church is joined onstage by his wife of four years, Terri Lisa Church, and their four-member band, Side Trak. The Churches have traveled across the United States and Europe, performing country cover songs and original tunes from their two CDs, "Custom Made" and "A Legend Froze in Time: A Tribute to Hank." Both David and Terri Lisa Church count country music icons among their influences: David Church's tastes lean more towards Merle Haggard, George Jones and Marty Robbins, while Terri Lisa Church prefers Anne Murray, B.J. Thomas and Karen Carpenter. Both traditional and contemporary country songs are in their repertoire, which can be found on www.davidchurch.net. The highlight of David Church's career came in 2003, when he was asked to perform at graveside services commemorating the 50th anniversary of Williams' death. Backed by members of the original Drifting Cowboys, he sang, "I Saw the Light." A friendship with Don Helms, who played steel guitar for the Drifting Cowboys, was born of that service, and the two men collaborated on "A Legend Froze in Time." "The older I get, the more the influence of (Williams) comes out in my music," David Church said. He also performs a Hank Williams tribute show, complete with narration and songs, that chronicles Williams' brief life and career. The Baltimore Festival performance likely will include a few classic Williams songs, David Church said, but will mostly be a mix of original and cover songs. Side Trak features guitarist Dennis Williams, whose uncle is Chet Atkins; fiddler Thomas Jenkins; steel player Richard Tipple, a Lancaster native; drummer Bob Kozek of Grove City; and bassist Steve Yancer, also of Lancaster. "We have a pretty good blend right now," David Church said of Side Trak. "(They're) some of the best musicians from around here, I believe." In his spare time, David Church runs a construction company and looks around the nation for events to play. He and Terri Lisa Church often perform in casinos and fairs, his favorite venue because the concert-style setting allows people to focus on the music rather than being distracted. "That's the best part of the business -- being able to get out and meet folks," he said. Even with country tunes recently becoming influenced by pop music, David Church remains steadfastly traditional and true to his idol. "I'm just plain old country," he said. Bev has been a member of my family for 25+ years and I know that she will do her best to help you (& me) in any way that she can. Did I mention that Bev is a professional clown? You can reach her on the toll free number 888-759-7771 or her cell phone at: 740-304-9295. Feel free to call her just to chat about your ideas, and I am sure she will be happy to tell you one of her great jokes! I will give you all the good news first as I can hardly wait!!! We have also been working on 2 NEW CD’S! David’s new cd, called, ' There You Are' has some incredible songs. 'There You Are' was written by Mike Heath and Marsha Brown, both from Wisconsin. It is a beautiful touching song about losing someone you love, and remembering the wonderful memories you made. And of course there will be some GREAT 'Hank' songs included. Also a list attached. And I have finally at long last recorded my first complete 'solo' cd. It will include some great 'Patsy' songs and also some that I have written. The title, 'I Found Myself In You', is a tribute to our children & grandchildren. (did I say grandchildren?) Remember what it was like taking your kids to the zoo, playing tag at the park, or just reading them a story? That’s what it’s all about! Anyway, I hope you will like it as much as everyone that heard it at our show in April. All of the songs will be listed on our websites: www.davidchurch.net & www.terrilisa.com and should be available by June! The price will be $15.00 each plus shipping. We will include a special picture for all of our Fan Club members when purchasing both cds. The last 2 weeks have been crazy! To bring you up to speed, I will just go back a couple of months. Many of you know that we spent the winter in Texas. It was awesome, with meeting so many wonderful people, including Barbara Fairchild and hubby, Roy. (after getting locked in a bathroom for over an hour at the RV park, and stuck in an elevator with Dadio while waiting on David) I decided I don’t much care for Houston. (although I loved the flee market!) After 15 shows, a stop in Louisiana, we headed to Florida for the cruise with Kevin Richards. It was great and also some wonderful weather there in the Caribbean. But I do have to keep David away from slot machines, he’s not as lucky as everyone else seemed to be! With a short visit in Florida with David’s brothers, we were off to Nashville to record. Then rush home just in time to head to Wisconsin for a show with Maggie May, the yodeler from Midwest Country. Maggie is quite a delightful lady and performed some great songs that you don’t get to hear on the TV show. Rush back home try to catch up laundry and then we had 2 shows in Ohio. Now comes the marathon week! We decided to trade our 1st bus, (I lovingly call it the 'white whale') for a converted van that we can use for musicians to come from Nashville to Ohio. We found a great van and dealer willing to 'trade'. So we were off to Chicago in the White whale, David driving, me being the co-pilot with laptop on my seat to work, and Brogan, our boxer keeping watch over everything. Halfway to our destination, in Indiana, the 'Whale' decides to quit shifting gears. Luckily we were just a few miles from a service station. So we cruised into the service place at about 15 mph. They got us in right away and after about an hour, (and a few hundred dollars) they determined that it was the transmission. The estimated time to fix was several days and several thousand dollars. Well this would not do, as we had shows in just 2 days. Luckily, we were close to family. My wonderful, beautiful daughter in law, Joy came to the rescue. She took us to rent a car. By this time we had decided to head to Chicago to purchase the van. We pulled into the dealer at 9:30. Fifteen minutes later, (never in my life bought a car that fast!) we were on our way back to Ohio. After a couple hours sleep, (in the van) we made it back in Ohio around 10:00 am. Pulled into a place to install a hitch, and then headed home. After an oil change, Dadio, (soundman/road manager) climbed behind the wheel and headed to Nashville to pick up our musicians. The next morning we climbed on the Eagle and headed to Indy to meet all the guys. Then on to Minnesota for 2 shows at Midwest Country and on to Wisconsin for a show. Back in Ohio on Monday. David spent the day mowing our 5 ½ acres, and I spent the day doing laundry and working on phone calls and dvd cover. Tuesday AM, (early) we headed to Nashville to record more. Whew!!! We finally made it home on Sunday, and get to stay here for a whole week! So you can imagine how our live is like. Good thing we like a 'fast pace environment'. Oh yes, I forgot to tell you about Dick McVey, who has produced all of our CD’s over the past 10 years. Dick has decided to become our Band Leader/Bass Player/Management Team. You will all just love him as much as we do. He is a lot of fun on and off stage, and a real PRO. He has worked for Jimmy Dickens, George Jones, Holly Dunn and more. So we are thrilled to have him!! And you will also notice his beautiful wife, Charmaine. I have come to love this wonderful 'Scottish' lady. She is always a great help when she is with us! So now you are up to date - I will try to keep you a little more informed. If you have an email, make sure you are on our email list. If you don’t and have a relative with one, have them sign up. When I send out emails, they can print it off and give it to you! Also check out the Major events listed Below. Thanks again for your support, and make sure you call us from time to time!!! Robert Ackerman Palmer, Alaska ----- Original Message ----- From: TBooth3313@aol.com To: hank1@mtaonline.net Sent: Saturday, February 14, 2009 6:51 PM Subject: David Church update Dear Family and Friends: Happy NEW YEAR...a little bit late, but hoping you are all doing well and surviving what has been a horrific winter for so many throughout the country in one way or another. For us, it has been a long and busy winter. This will be short, just to update you on what has been happening. Many of you know by now that we have been in Texas for the past few months. I must once again apologize for being so far behind. There is just not enough time to do all the things I need to accomplish. I had a terrible virus, which I know many of you also have had that lasted over 4 weeks and left me completely drained of energy. (Thank God David only got a little of it, and knocked it with antibiotics) I had about 2 weeks of realative health, when I came down with a strep infection that lasted another 3 weeks. In the midst of all of this, we had several shows and other projects going on. (so goes the plan of trying to catch up!) So here is the news... We did a photo shoot on a ranch in Texas with some beautiful long horns and horses in the background and will be incorporating some of them into the calendar. The calendar is almost complete, and since I can't seem to get it finished by January, I am going to add a couple extra months. We will finally have a new DVD. During our stay in Texas we rented a wonderful little theater, in the midst of this beautiful Rio Grande Valley area. We found a producer and filmed 2 shows to live audience. Prior to leaving Texas we worked with the producer on some of the editing and are hoping to have a complete finished product by March/April. David is working on a new cd that will include "Crazy Heart", "I Dreamed About Momma Last Night", and some additional "Hank" songs the he will not even tell me, but plan is to have complete by May. The new cd will include a fantastic song written by a young lady from Wisconsin. I am working on a new cd that will also be released in May/June time frame that will include several originals that I have written, titled "Heaven In Your Eyes" (some of you have heard it at our shows) "I Find Myself In You" written for my children and grandchildren, possibly some "Patsy" and other favorites. Many of you know about the passing of our wonderful friend and mentor, Don Helms. David will be performing at a Tribute to Don in Nashville on March 8th along with the incredible "Ray Price", "Bobby Bare", and others. Details listed below.... We will be performing in Nashville again on April 26 for a benefit for Loretta Johnson, one of the founders of the Loretta Lynn Fan Club and IFCO (International Fan Club Organization) of which we are members. This will include some fantastic talent soon to be announced. David and I will once again be performing at the HANK WILLIAMS FESTIVAL in Georgiana, AL. The festival has moved to the second week in June and we will also be in Nashville earlier that week for some of the CMA events. Come down with us and make a week of it!!! We will be on the Kevin Richards Country Cruise again this year with Mark Chesnutt and Dale Watson. I am hoping to have another BIG announcement by the time we return from the cruise! Here is the info on the Tribute show for Don. We hope that you can make it, but if you can't we sincerely hope that you will consider making a contribution to this worthy fund. Thanks so much for all your love support and prayers! God Bless!
