In a speech recorded for seminary students, President Spencer W. Kimball said that studying the history of the Church was the "right thing" to do:"My beloved young people, you are in the right place, doing the right thing at this the right time in your lives... First and foremost, increase your personal testimony of the restoration of the gospel. Josheph Smith was a true prophet of the Lord. Make your studies this year a great spiritual experience. Pray often to know more surely of these wonderful truths you will be studying. Ponder them and apply them in your life..."

THE TRUE CHURCH TODAY MUST...
- be a restored church. (Acts 3:19-21, Revelation 14:6-7, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4, Daniel 2:44-45)
- have a foundation of apostles and prophets and the same organization as did Christ's when it was organized. (Ephesians 4:11-14)
- bear the name of Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 5:2-3, Isaiah 43:6-7, Romans 12:4-5)
- teach that God and Jesus Christ have bodies of flesh and bone. (Luke 24:36-39, Acts 1:9-11, Hebrews 1:1-3)
- claim receipt of revelation from God in these modern times. (Amos 3:7, Matthew 16:17, Luke 10:22, James 1:5-7)
- teach baptism (for the living) by immersion and also baptism for the dead. (Mathew 3:13-16, Mark 1:9-11, John 3:23, I Corinthians 15:16, 29, I Peter 3:18-19, 4:6)
- practice divine healings and receive other gifts of the Spirit. (Mark 3:15-17, Acts 3:2-8, 9:33-34, I Corinthians 12:1-11)
- have no paid misistry. (Isaiah 45:13, I Peter 5:2, Titus 1:7)
- be a missionary church. (Jeremiah 16:16-17, Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15-16)
