    Fetal Development

When a woman's period is 1 to 2 weeks late (3 to 4 weeks along), the embryo's heart starts its beating. When she is 2 weeks late (4 weeks along), the eyes are beginning to show and the arms and legs are forming. Nerve fibers grow out from the forming brain and spinal cord. When she is 3 weeks late (5 weeks along), the nose, eyes, and mouth are more recognizable now. And the neural tube is now forming the brain. By the end of that week (6 weeks along), the fingers are starting to form and the foot is developing. At 7 weeks, fingers have finished forming and toes are starting to form. At 8 weeks, everything that will be found in the full grown human being is already a part of the fetus. But here's the one that blew me away, at the moment of conception (the sperm meeting the egg), the infant's color of eyes and hair, height, and genetic personality traits are determined (set in their DNA).

If anyone wonders how correct this information is, I don't blame you for wanting to confirm it. Go to your local library, pick up any medical book of your choice on the developmental progress of an embryo and fetus during pregnancy.

To confirm the above "DNA is determined at conception" information, you can visit the following link to Paternity Direct, an unbiased DNA testing website:
Paternity Direct - A DNA Testing Site

Or you could just "Google" it.

The following link offers information Documenting Development of the Embryo/Fetus. The information is medically accurate (compare with any medical/science book.) The gestational age of the images below are calculated "from conception". In other words, a "6 Week Embryo" image is an embryo whose sperm and egg connected 6 weeks ago. No need to worry, there are no "abortion" photos on these sites. Each link will list the name of the site the you are being directed to.
