Female Monologue
Memorize the following monologue for your audition. You will be performing this in front of a small panel of people. You should be able to perform it with minimal help. In the monologue, Minerva is an elderly woman speaking to her niece’s fiancé who is making his first trip to her cliff-side mansion.
MINERVA
You probably find my home rather grotesque, don’t you? Perhaps it is.
(dreamlike)
It was built by my grandfather. He was right when he said that nothing would ever destroy it and nothing has… not even a severe earthquake we had several years ago. It took away part of the cliff, but the house remained standing. He lived here alone. He worshipped solitude and was happy in his loneliness. I remember the night he died he made a very strange request. He asked that his heart be buried here… here in this room. And do you know… some nights when the ocean is calm and the air is still, I can actually hear the beating of his heart echoing throughout the house. I don’t believe he’ll ever leave it… and neither will I.
Male Monologue
Memorize the following monologue for your audition. You will be performing this in front of a small panel of people. You should be able to perform it with minimal help. In the monologue, Dr. Adler is hypnotizing a group of people.
DR. ADLER
(in a quiet, monotonous voice)
You are very relaxed…close your eyes and try to clear your mind completely. Listen only to my voice… only to my voice… all other sounds are fading away… only my voice telling you to go to sleep… a deep, wonderful, sound natural sleep. When I count to three, you will be in a very deep, wonderful sleep. Your body is completely relaxed… completely relaxed… when I reach the count of three, you will be in a deep, deep sleep… 1,2,3.
