Life Of A Typical Malay - July 1999
Wednesday 7/7/1999
Akak The talipun tadi, asking me to try calling Mak, she couldn't get through since morning. Something wrong with the line I guess. Pui dengan Noor ada problem sikit. What? They just got married last month !...
Left for work at 7-30 pm, had to pick up Werner. He was there at Shah Alam Stadium car park waiting for me since 7-15 pm, we carpooled to the office tonight. A very quiet man, he didn't say much, I felt like I was driving alone.
Azila came to the office just after the market opened, gave him one of my Jaring passwords. He was so surprised to learn that price has dropped to as low as 91.65. Then to Estana with him, Dominic and Kumar, for a little bit of gossiping. He picked up the tab for us.
Market was a bit choppy, price went up but very slowly. It went down at mid-session and climbed again towards the end. One of the new traders got trapped on his first day of trading. Rumour of cold air front approaching Brazil at the end of the week was the reason why the price jumped to above 95.00.
Aku mintak-mintak biarlah ada frost, this winter season. Tak betul-betul jadi pun tak apa asalkan ada frost scare macam dulu tu,at least dapatlah jugak kitaorang tumpang sekaki.

4-30 pm: Heck, what's wrong with commodityexpert.com?. This morning I decided to subscribe and paid online, USD 48 for one month subscription. And what do I get on my first day? Nothing, absolutely nothing. I managed to get access to the page, the main page, but when I tried to open some new links to the other pages, it just went blank.I t did not open. It did not (beep) open!!!
Ok, trying again now.....Nope, it won't open...(Beep.Beep)
Are they taking us for a ride? Or is this another daylight robbery kind of thing? Answer me please....!!!...I need to get that bloody reports, market is going to open in like 4 hours, dammit!
They replied to my harsh-sounding email:
Dear Mr Zainal Abidin Aziz,
Apologies the problems you had in accessing the page - from 6 p.m.
until
9.30 p.m.(our time) yesterday. We had to reconfigure our server to accommodate a
problem with password access. This meant that some pages were
unavailable
for a short period of time. The issue has now been fixed and you should
have no problems in accessing this or any other report. (make sure you
click
refresh to ensure that you call up the latest newsfile and not one held
in
cache on your pc)
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Regards.

I thought it was over. Far from it....it's 12 midnight now and we are in the middle of uncertain trading session. I've been trying to go to the page since 10-00 pm,menipu aku rupanya balau ni, Irish Balau...
And thanks for reminding me to click that refresh button....very funny....I've been on the 'net for more than 3 years I know what to do, mate!!!
4-45 am:
It was fun, really, exchanging emails with commodityexpert.com, I wrote one or two sentences but their replies were, what, a few paragraphs. Their last email reads:
Dear Mr Zainal Abidin Aziz
You were quite right, all the hyperlinks on the main page were incorrect,
and we
had only checked the link to the main page that you had indicated.
Thank you for your trouble in following up this issue, and to make
amends,
we will not count this week as part of your one month subscription.
Regards
Lawrence,commodityexpert.com
Moral of the story - It pays to be nasty...*LOL*...
Friday 9/7/1999
Oh, forgive me God, I missed my Friday Prayer today, woke up late, 2-00 pm....oh no...
Called Rohaya on her handphone, it rang but was not picked up. Hmmm...second time in 3 weeks. Been trying to call her the last 2 weeks but never got through. Voice message system. I hate voice message system. Will give a few more tries these few days and if there's still no response then I WILL just delete the number, close the file and poof....Simple guy. Sometimes I hate myself for being too "simple"....
And I hate myself even more now.....
I will only leave messages on Zamri's or perhaps Bahrim's voice machine. Biasanya benda kutuk-mengutuk, diaorang pun macam tu, kalau tak dapat me on the handphone, diaorang tinggalkan message yang bukan-bukan on mine. We are close buddies, aku tak terasa hati pun.
Dollah called again, he wanted to top-up his investment, another 5K. I lost count how many times he deposited that amount into my bank account...*LOL*...
Oh, I owe Werner one trip now (to and fro), my car headlight kaput since yesterday and I forgot to have it repaired this evening. This guy drives really fast, just like many other expatriates. And they complain how bad Malaysian drivers are....
Saturday 10/7/1999
Saturday will always be a boring but peaceful day. I was suppossed to go to the National Library in KL but since I woke up late and the clock showed 2-30 pm I thought why waste time driving there. I could just go to the State Library here in Shah Alam. Less hassle. And suddenly it poured. Good, what a great start to my great weekend.
To Section 9 after Asar, had my "brandis" (breakfast + lunch + dinner + supper) at Anjung Cafe. Bought some car accessories and had my car headlight repaired after that.
Decided to go to Shah Alam Lake, instead of to the library which is just at the opposite end of the lake.
Spent a few hours in the car, reading some notes/reports I printed last night/this morning. My, this coffee business is such a big thing, if only aku ada banyak duit.It really was a typical loser's way of total relaxing....sitting in the car, watching people having fun and pretending to write/read something when they look back at me. Ahhhhh....
The only consolation was that Mixx FM played non-stop music of the late 80's and early 90's. Or to be exact, British hits which I enjoyed listening to tremendously.
Songs like Hands To Heaven (Breathe), Perfect (Fairground Attraction), Angel Eyes (Wet Wet Wet), Toy Soldiers (Martika), Mandika (Sinead O' Connors), Road To Hell (Chris Rea), Stay On This Road (A-Ha), Take My Breath Away (Berlin), Live It Up (Mental As Anything), Coming Around Again (Carly Simon), No More The Fools (Elkie Brooks), Piano In The Dark (Brenda Russel) really made my otherwise boring day.Another satisfied listener.
They even played Girlfriend In A Coma, the only song by The Smith that I like. Not that much, anyway.
The one particular song that made me stop reading my notes was Gloria Estefan's Don't Wanna Lose You. No idea why....
Sometimes it's hard
To make things clear
Or know when to face the truth
And I know that the moment is here
I'll open my heart and show you inside
My love has no pride
I feel with you I've got nothing to hide
So open your eyes and see who I am
And not who you want for me to be
I am only myself, myself
I don't wanna lose you now
We're gonna get through somehow
I don't wanna lose you now or ever
Baby I've finally found
The courage to stand my ground
But if you want me
I'll be around, forever
We all make mistakes, we all lose our way
But we stood the test of time and I hope
That's the way it will stay
It's all up to you, to tell me to go
'Cause it won't be me to walk away
When you're all that I know
And I know that
I don't wanna lose you now
We're gonna get through somehow
I don't wanna lose you now or ever and ever
Baby I've finally found
The courage to stand my ground
But if you want me
I'll be around, forever, forever, yeah , yeah
Don't wanna lose you , lose you now
We're gonna get through somehow
Don't wanna lose you now
Don't wanna lose you
Dont' wanna lose you
I noticed there were 3 other Honda Civics (hatchback, similar to mine) at the car park. That made me wonder even more.....
Out of boredom I downloaded a program called MPlayer and have it installed on my webpage. Now,if you feel like talking to me live then give me a buzz, (my ICQ indicator bar on the main page will flash when I'm on-line). You don't have to download the program, just register as a user and you are on. Had a blast just now talking to a few websurfers, pity my mic was not properly inserted.
