2/12/11: I am selling a variety of Leicester Longwool yarns that we produced on our farm in PA and had mill spun at Taos Valley Woolen Mill in New Mexico. I have 20 pounds plus of the types listed below. All the skeins are approximately 71/2-8 ounces. Incredible for knitting, weaving, and dyeing. Lustrous and strong fiber!

BFL is a favorite of hand spinners and felt makers because of silky hand, curly locks and lovely luster. 12/31/10: Hi - we sell 100% pure alpaca raw fleece for spinning if you are interested. If not, I would appreciate it greatly if you could pass this email along to people you know who might be interested. I can send small samples of the raw fleece and yarn at no cost if you are interested, just email me your address. We are a small alpaca ranch in Southern California and pride ourselves on quality animals. Our herdsires and also several younger females have many ribbons for halter and fleece performance in the show ring. Our prices are very low as we have a back-up of fleece right now, we usually send it to a mill for processing into yarn or I spin it myself, but I am way behind at the moment.
I either spin the fleece right off the animal and then wash the yarn when I go to set it or I hand wash the raw fleece a few times in some dishwashing liquid and water in a tub, then spin it. It has dust and hay vegetable matter but because alpaca has no lanolin so you can get away with spinning it this way. I usually don't card it into roving for my own spinning (although I do have a drum carder) since I don't find it necessary. I can card it for an additional fee if you need roving though. One new idea I recently had was to spin a strand of the white suri alpaca with a strand of the black huacaya alpaca together and that turned into quite nice striped yarn. Below are the prices for fleece and yarn, plus shipping costs (we vacuum the air out of the fleece bags so shipping is lower and don't charge any handling fees):
