the Doctrines of Laying on of Hands

LAYING ON OF HANDS

Any person can lay his hands to anyone.  This is the trend in these latter-days. Self-appointed born again pastors and preachers lay their hands just to anybody to heal them of their sicknesses, to bless them, or to appease their troubles minds and hearts according to Matthew 24:24

" For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great sings and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."

It doesn’t only sounds good but also looks good as if there is a real feeling of compassion and love. It is true that touching a person is sometimes an expression of love: a motherly touch will develop the mental and physical well being of a child, a touch can also spark the sexual lust of a person as mentioned in James 1:14

" But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed."

A touch of the first century Christ is enough to heal the sick, comfort the depressed, and to drive out evils -Matthew 9:35

"  And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and disease among the people."

The doctrine of laying on of hands did not start in the time of our Lord Jesus Christ, millennia before Christ, Moses laid his hands upon Joshua to give him power and authority according to Deuteronomy 34:9

" And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the Lord commanded Moses."

Isaac blessed the supposed Esau who was Jacob and gave him all the rights of a first born through the laying on of His hands- Genesis 27:21-23

" And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not. And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice,

but the hands are the hands of Esau. And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hand: so he blessed him."

Ananias laid his hands on Paul to rid him off of his blindness and opened his eyes to the truth
Acts 22:12-14

' And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there, Came unto me and stood,  and said unto me, Brother  Saul ( Paul), receive thy sight.  And the same hour I looked hath chosen thee, that shouldest know his well, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear voice of his mouth.''

   Saint Paul received his sight.

And Paul laid his hands to Timothy, a successor for the administration of the Church.  II Timothy 4:1; 3:14

" I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in reason, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort will all long- suffering and doctrine."

" But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;"

But this very same Paul admonished Timothy not to lay his hands readily to anybody, lest he be corrupted with the sin of others - I Timothy 5:22

" Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thy self pure.

This very same Paul also said in Hebrews 6:1-2

" Therefore, leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment."

that leaving behind the fundamental doctrines of Christ . . .  the doctrine of laying on of hands . . . we must go on unto perfection.

Is there anything wrong about laying on of hands?
__________________________________

Two separate entities like the human body can chemically and electrically induce power to a person, positivity in thinking and in belief can be influenced by laying on of hands. Thus, the immune system is boosted and the power of mind is kindled.  This explains the principle of laying on of hands both scientifically and spiritually, Jesus of Nazareth often times lay his hands on the sick to heal them of their illnesses.

The enormous power within the body of Christ is released to the subject person thereby healing them of their physical sickness.  We can remember this event that once a woman sick of 12 years was healed when touched the hem of the garment of Jesus.

Matthew 9:20-21

" And behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment I shall be whole."

In an occasion, Jesus also laid his hands on the small children, whom the apostles forbade to come near him, it must be understood that these small children are not sick of illnesses - Matthew 19:13-15

" Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me; for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

What is the purpose of the laying on of hands?

It is symbolic of Jesus' acceptance of
them or to anybody who wants to come
   near him.

Seemingly there is no harm and wrong done in the laying on of hands to anybody else.
However a scrutiny of the events that happened during the old and New Testament times regarding the laying on of hands will prove this truth cannot be refuted.

 1.  A person to lay his hands is a person of authority
 2.  A person to whom the hands are being lain is subjected to the authority by the one laying on his hands.

But why did Paul admonished the first Christians that they must (including Paul himself), leave behind these fundamental doctrines of Christ?

The fundamental is more on the material!

Jesus wants us to attain not only physical but spiritual blessings.

The fundamental purpose of laying on of hands is to heal the physical or material body of the subject person, but Christ in his capacity knows to real Christ of the Bible will surely seek for the spiritual significance of his teachings for this is the way to learn more of Him. John 3:12 says

" If I have told you earthly things, and ye believer not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?"

In his entire gospel, Jesus always used to exhort us of the Spiritual side of things John 6:27

"  Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed."

and it is the main objective of  Christ as can be gleaned from the book of  John 6:63.

" It is the Spirit that quickeneth: the words that speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life."

When He speaks of wealth, he ultimately mean heavenly wealth. In Matthew 6:19 - 20  it  was said

" Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves treasures in heaven, where thieves do not break through nor steal: "

When Jesus heals a sick person, he ultimately wants to heal him spiritually, thus making a person whole. Inevitably when he lay his hands on a person he wants to bless him physically and spiritually. Why then do we have stop or leave the fundamental doctrines of Christ?

A person healed of leprosy can
still be lost, while a leper with his leprosy                                            He wants us to leave
healed and made whole from the inside cannot be lost                        the  material to attain
Peter 3:4                                                                                         spiritual consciousness

"  But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price."

Also in Romans 7:22, the Bible says

" For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:"

Spiritual damage can be done to anyone by those preachers who carelessly lay hands to everyone.  There is no doubt, these silly preachers of our times are made silly by the unaccounted for laying on of hands. Imagine these preachers laying their hands on dogs, on the television sets, and on snakes.  Laying on their hands on prayer requests with money, making them lovers of money according to I Timothy 6:10

" For the love of money is a root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

The characteristics of dog was transmitted to them and the foolishness of a devil possessed reflects to their personality, thereby making them full of devil and evil schemes in inventing man made religions according to the book of Isaiah 56:10 - 11

" His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, they are shepherds that cannot under stand: they all look to their own way, everyone for his gain, from his quarter."

Paul was right in his admonition to Timothy not to readily lay on his hands to just anybody - Timothy 5:22

" Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thy self pure."

Of course, we are not against the laying on of hands but simply being precautious of the warning given down by the Holy Scriptures. We are leaving the material and the physical to attain spirituality will make our being perfect.
