Trade Deficits

Now I am a true believer in free trade, but fair free trade, ill buy your products, if you’ll buy mine. In other words, if I buy 100 dollars in products form you, you in turn have to buy 100 dollars in products from me.

While nothing can be exact, a few simple rules will make life easier for all.

Rule # 1: Imports and exports should not exceed 10 % plus or minus, when that amount is exceeded, then the major donor should increase their purchases to bring totals in line, or the minor donor should reduce purchases to achieve the same result. Donor, meaning country.

Rule #2: Calculations should be done each month, so that in the following month, adjustments can be made. All totals should be calculated as a concurring total month by month for the year, and year-by-year to keep an even playing field.

Rule # 3: Any restrictions applied to one country ought to be exercised in kind by the other country. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

Rule # 4: All pricing should be made in one specific monetary value. Preferably, an international monetary fund, such as one that can be set by the World Bank, or a similar entity. Whether it’s the dollar, the pound or the yen, it doesn't matter, as all funds should be transferred in the currency of the receiving country, at the exchange value set by the controlling entity.

I really don’t understand why we have so many high paid burocrats making a mess of things in the area of trade, when we can just use a little common sense and do things equitable to all, and being equitable, is not being a protectionist.

I do understand that someone’s brother, sister, friend, or associate, etc. needs that high paying job to buy their new yacht, but that’s their problem.

P.S. to burocrats, I don’t want your job.

P.S. to American Consumers, Buy American, because I don’t trust the system to improve itself without your participation.
