the incredibly true adventures of two lesbians on the loose and
their WEDDING DAY!!!

Saturday 19th June...
NO DAYS LEFT!!!!

We woke at 6.00 a.m. filled with *so* much excitement. We had a few things to do before our hairdresser and make-up artist arrived. It was so quiet as we drove though the cow paddock. The sun was just starting to come up and it promised to be a beautiful day. The big plus was that it wasn't raining!!! That would have to be every bride's nightmare.
We stopped at Nikki's first to take the cake to the reception room. Nikki was still in bed so Julie had to go around and knock on the window until she let us in...heehee. We had a coffee and very very carefully loaded the cake into the car. We were both so excited that the day was finally here. We laughed with giddiness as we drove to the reception room.
The cake made it in one piece. We left it in the kitchen for our caterer, Sam, to place with the Croquembouche when it arrived later.
We then headed for the big house to check on the girls, (Sue and Stephanie, our official 'helper bee's') and to our surprise they were already awake. We gave them their list of things to do and checked that everything was under control at their end. They assured us it was.
We headed back to our lodge for a quiet breakfast alone. This gave us time to settle down, relax and talk about any last minute things. After breakfast Mel jumped in the shower, while Julie fussed about. Just before 9.00 a.m. we heard a car coming down the track. It was Di, our hairdresser. Julie was jumping in the shower, so Mel was first up for a fabulous hair-do.
By the time Julie was out of the shower both Kim the make-up artist and Nikki had arrived. Julie was doing the introductions as Mel was explaining to Di what she was wanted done to her hair. It was such a lovely girly beauty parlour atmosphere! Mel had her hair done first as Nikki was getting her make-up done. It was then like a game of musical chairs...each of us getting pampered. It was so relaxing being spoilt.
What did Mel have in her hair?
She had made a circle from hat wire and covered it with ivory satin ribbon. On the back she placed tiny ivory and gold ribbon roses with tiny ribbon loops entwined through them. After the roses where in place she then attached 8 (good feng shiu number) pieces of satin ribbon under the roses. With the satin roses almost sitting at the bottom of her hairline the ribbons fell just above her waist. It looked gorgeous.
It took hardly any time for the three of us to have our hair and make-up done. As we waited for Mel's mother and niece to arrive from the airport our hairdresser, Di, started twisting some of the left over ribbon roses together for Raechelle's hair, which she is having braided. It wasn't too long before they arrived and the cottage was buzzing again.
Someone yelled out, "There's a van at the gate". It was our florist, Gerhardt!!! He bought in our bouquets, the girls bouquets and the buttoniers. The flowers were just perfect. You couldn't have had a better match. Our bouquets were made up of Calla Lilies with purple Lissianthams, the exact same purple as the girls' dresses!!! They were loosely tied with wide purple satin ribbon.
Raechelle & Genevieve had posies made up of cream roses surrounded with cream jonquils, also tied with the same ribbon as ours. We decided that our mothers were going to wear just a single rose. We didn't want them to be wearing half a tree!!! They were exactly what we wanted...simple and elegant.
Julie's sister Chris soon arrived with Genevieve. Mel was making sandwiches for everyone...had to make sure we had *something* to eat before we got stuck into the bubbly!!! While Mel was doing this Chris and Julie helped Genevieve get ready. The amethyst earrings we bought the girls looked great and more importantly, they loved them. Mel dressed Raechelle and as usual left cutting the netting hem until the last possible minute. In all fairness she couldn't really do it until Raechelle had the dress on.
Chris drove Nikki and Bev back to their cottages to get dressed. Di left us after completing the 5 hairstyles. Kim had done 4 full make-ups, plus the girls' light one, but stayed on to help us get dressed.
The two girls were so excited and also shy in that kids-meeting-each-other for-the first-time way. Before long they had their hair styled and a slight touch of make-up and lippy in place...and were busy twirling around in their new dresses. This managed to freak all the adults out, as in the middle of the cottage was a burning wood fire and a wood supply that was just PERFECT for snagging their net skirts on. After a few tense moments, Geneveive snagged her skirt running past, we *then* convinced them to sit still. Julie was super-paranoid about them ripping the fine net overskirts before the pictures were taken! (After that, they could trash them! *LOL*)
Finally all that was left to do was for us to put on our wedding dresses!!! Mel went first, but it wasn't long before she was calling Julie for help. It was pretty cramped in the bathroom but we managed. Julie put on her dress and we were just about ready to go.
As Julie came back into the lounge room she walked on her dress and ripped her hem!!! Oh My Goddess!!! Luckily we had packed a needle and thread, as all the bridal magazines advised! Mel was about to sew it back in place, but she was shaking too much to do the sewing. Thank goodness that Kim was still there as she sewed the hem back into place.
With the hem back in place we just had to get our make-up touched up and wait for the arrival of our photographer Shannon. Mel was sitting in the chair when the girls yelled out "There's someone coming!!!" It was Shannon strolling down the track with her tripod slung over her shoulder.
Kim finished our touch-ups as Shannon was walking through the door. It really is going like clock work...right on schedule. Shannon likes to take casual photos, which suits us just fine. We do some shots inside and then made our way out onto the decking that sits over the lake.
Although it's sunny outside, there's a winter breeze blowing off the lake and the girls are freezing. Mel grabbed Raechelle a big bear-hug and managed to get Raechelle's lipstick smeared right on the shoulder of her wedding dress!! Julie looks at Mel waiting for her to totally freak out but she doesn't. We went inside to try and sponge it out but we both knew it's wasn't going to happen. Mel decides it's no great drama she can hold her flowers over it.
We re-join the girls on the deck and take some fun shots of us dancing with them. The girls look gorgeous together. The weather is on our side even though it is the middle of winter.
After the outside shots have been taken we have a quick bourbon before we start walking up to the reception room where we are to meet our mothers. Shannon is walking ahead of us and the girls, taking some random shots of us side stepping the cow pats...*LOL*
It's all feeling very casual and light. No-one is stressing we are just enjoying a lovely walk in the country. All dressed in wedding regalia! We see a figure at the top of the hill and can't make out who it is. We're tossing a few names around and then realise that it's Dannii, the womin who bought us together in Melbourne. It's wonderful that she could make it up for the week-end from Melbourne.
Everyone makes their way into the reception room. Just before we go inside Mel kisses Julie, we turn to go inside but we hear Shannon yell out "Keep kissing, keep kissing!!!" *LOL*
We step into the reception room and we're stunned. It looks better than even we pictured it would. The centerpieces are gorgeous. Irises, Tulips, Roses make up their main part. The tables have been set beautifully with white linen and white china. The bon boxes, drinks list, menu's, camera cards and candle holders add lots of color to the tables. Everyone is saying how wonderful the room looks.
We have a *light* bourbon as we wait for our mothers to arrive. It's still light and breezy, no stress. Lots of joking and laughing going on with the staff. We have some fake cutting of the cake photos taken just in case no one is capable when the real thing happens later in the night.
Nikki arrives telling us that she wasn't happy with the cake top. The florist misunderstood what we wanted but, Nikki found some left over ribbon, tied some bows and it looks great.
Mel's family arrives. More compliments about how wonderful we, the girls and the room looks. For some strange reason guests start to wander over to reception room, not the chapel. We're not sure why or how this is happening. Maybe they just want to see what two brides are wearing so there isn't any great shock in the chapel. *grin*
Nikki's dearest friend, Carolyn, arrives with a set of blue garters! Somehow we've ended up putting them on in the toilet. We don't know how this happened but Shannon managed to get it all on film!!!
We manage to get the guests over to the chapel. As we wait to get the signal to come over we take some family shots outside. Mel is starting to get a little nervous...ok, *alot* nervous. As usual Julie has the words that she needs to hear.
