the incredibly true adventures of two lesbians on the loose and
the resources they used to plan their wedding day.

We always knew from the start that we both wanted the traditional wedding although, not the total white wedding but, very close. We had no idea even where to start so, we just wrote down what we wanted and bought a hetero planning guide to get the basics. We kept saying wouldn't it be great if there was a book for gays and lesbians that told you about other couples ceremonies and rituals.

As it happens Julie went to dinner at Chris and Deannas', Chris is Julies sister, and they had a copy of a book called "The Essential Guide to Lesbian and Gay Weddings" by Tess Ayers and Paul Brown, Harper San Francisco, 1994. This book has everything from The Engagement to The Honeymoon with lots of great hints and tips. It has info and photos of other couples weddings. Always nice to see what others have done. There is also many questions that you should ask caterers, photographers etc etc. Some questions we didn't even think about. All in all a really useful book. Julie managed to get this from a book store in Sydney. You may have trouble finding it as the authors are in the process of up-dating.

The one other book that we *really* used was "Ceremonies of the Heart - Celebrating Lesbian Unions" Edited by Becky Butler, Seal Press, 1994. Filled with ideas on creating unique rituals, the book describes the transformative experiences of 27 lesbian couples who celebrated their relationships in wide ranging ways - from a gala wedding with gowns and cake to a high-spirited Buddhist event under desert skies. The only downside of this book is that eventually you will have to make a decision as to what rituals you would want to include in your ceremony... :) It is wonderful to have so many ideas to choose from.

We, of course, used the internet to find many personal homepages. Here are just a couple. We don't want to make it too easy for you now...*LOL*
