I was born on Januray 16th, 1997. I was 5 weeks early, but they made me come out because Mommy's blood sugars were crazy. I was the talk of the maternity ward because I had a *true* knot in my cord, so I am lucky to even be here! See how round my head is?! Mommy only pushed me 3 times! I weigh in at 4lbs 9oz and this pic was taken only 1 minute after I was born was the first one taken in my two week hospital adventure!
I only spent a little time in the incubator, I never needed oxygen. I was under the bili lights for 26 hrs and had I been term I wouldn't have had to suntan at all! I had a glucose IV for about 20hrs as a precaution because Mommy had severe gestational diabetes. The incubator is standard procedure but my heat was off by day 4 but they left me in there until day 6 when I was sprung to a cot when I peed my bedding! *teehee my plan worked!*
Here Mommy is holding me while I was being gavage fed. This is how I had to finish most of my meals I couldn't breastfeed long enough or even suck on a bottle long enough to finish less than 55cc's! Mommy fought the gavage at first, now she wishes she had insisted on it from the first and refused the bottle feeds! I really began packing on the grams after I ate this way!
This is my Daddy holding me on Jan 17th, I sure felt safe and happy in his arms!. I was still only a few hours old. I hated having my IV in it made it harder for Daddy and Mommy to hold me! (Especially while Mommy still had her IV in too!) As it turns out I didn't need the IV my bloodwork showed my blood sugars to be normal.
