Introduction:
A. Hannah’s vow: I Samuel 1:11-28
1. Here we see a determined mother: vs 10
2. Here we see a dedicated mother: vs 11
3. Here we see a magnificent mother:
a. Magnificent: “splendid” - “one of ideas” - “exalted”
b. She was loved: vs 5
B. Hannah’s Influence: vs 28 - “he worshipped the Lord there”
C. Hannah’s Testimony: 2:1-2
1. She truly was a magnificent mother: Her characteristics: she
was:
I. Magnificent In Prayer: vs 10,
A. Prayer from a Burden Heart: vs 5; 10-11
1.A mother should have a burdened heart for their children
a. Get saved
b. Live for the Lord - He learned to worship under Hannah
c. Dedicated to the Lord - as Samuel was
d. Raise for the Lord - “train up a child…”
B. Prayer that Rises from a Grateful Heart: vs 27
1. A mother should have a grateful heart for their children
a. Don’t forget to thank God for your children
b. Pray for your children
c. Ask God’s hand on their life
II. Magnificent in Faith:
A, Hannah was a strong Christian mother
With strong, unfailing faith, she took her petition for a Son to God
1. Faith that Takes Hold On God’s Promises: vss 17-18
a. Raise a child in the way it should go..not depart
b. Train them in the things of God
c. Teach them the scriptures
2. Faith Trusting in God’s Leadership: vs 11 & vs 28
a. Hannah got her answer
b. She trusted the promised son to God’s leading
c. She then fulfilled her promise to God - vs 28
NOTE: We need mothers who will bring Christ down from a “theory” to
ever day living. Mothers should show forth Christ. That is what Hannah
did. She believed in God and her life showed it.
III. Magnificent in Love:
Nothing can quench the love of a mother for her children. Hannah’s
love for her little Son, whom she got from the Lord, was magnificent.
A. A Love that Arranges Priorities:
1. Priority 1: She wanted a child: vs 5
2. Priority 2: She prayed for a son: vs 10
3. Priority 3: She gave him to the Lord: 1:27-28; 2:1-10
a. The world, television, games, outside activities should not
set the priorities of how a child is raised
B. A Love that Never Gives Up:
1. Years after Hannah gave him up, she still visited and checked
on him, doing for him what a mother should do - 2:18-19
IV. Magnificent in Influence:
Samuel never got away from Hannah’s influence. As a prophet of God
and a judge of Israel, he was one of the greatest character of Israel’s
history. Hannah’s influence lived on in Samuel and others he touched.
A. Influence that Honors God:
1. Her Influence set his Sails in the Right Direction: 3:1-10
2. Mothers need to influence their children for the Lord
a. Miss church - saying it is not important
b. Not reading - others more important
c. Never pray - no need to bother God
B. Influence that Blesses Mankind:
1. Hannah mightily influenced Samuel
2. Samuel mightily influenced Israel
a. George Washington’s mother taught him the Biblical ideals
he kept before the nation. Twice each day the Bible was read, prayers were
held in his childhood home
