Introduction: What a wonderful picture the scriptures give us here of
Christ: - v.14
A. AMEN - Means "truth" - completely guaranteed,
totally true, trustworthy
1. Two things to the lukewarm Christian: a.) You can trust his prominse, he will forgive; b.) Better heed His warnings, you will face the judgment of God just as he pronounced in His Word
B. FAITHFUL AND TRUE WITNESS - Means perfectly
honest or completely honest
1. Christ is just what the
lukewarm church is not:
a. Lukewarm Church tells part of the truth
b. Lukewarm Church witness part of the time
c. Lukewarm Church is half faithful to Christ
C. BEGINNING OF CREATION OF GOD - Means he was the great creator of the universe, the maker, sustainer, source of all things - and still is
D. Notice in verse 15, there is a complaint filed
againt the believers:
1. "Neither hot nor cold..."
Lukewarm (means someone who is half-hearted, half-committed, indifferent,
self-satisfied) In other words, a Christian who is like this is a HALF-BAKED
Christian. A HALF-BAKED Christian is:
I. Half-Committed to Christ:
A. They never stress Christ in
1. Their Conversation (but
they do sports, politics, world affairs, etc)
2. The Way They Live (but
they do the world, the flesh, the devil) Luke 9:23, Romans 12:1-2
II. Half-Committed to Proclaim Christ:
A. He is the Son of God
1. But they tell he was
a son of God
2. But they tell he was
a good person
3. But they tell that He
(Christ) meant well
III. Half-Committed to Teaching the Word of God:
A. They teach the Bible contains the Word of God
(We procalim, it is the Word of God)
B. They teach the Bible is in error (Have to call
a convention to vote whether the Bible is actually the Word of God) Note
2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Timoth 4:2-4
IV. Half-Committed to Evangelism and Missions:
A. To the Great Commission - Matt 28:19-20
B. To witnessing for the Lord - Acts 1:8
V. Half-Committed To Stressing Holy, Pure Living for God:
A. Separation - II Cor 6:14-17
B. Chastening - Hebrews 12:14
VI. Half-Committed To Self-Denial, Sacrifical Living:
A. Expected - Mark 10:28, Luke 5:27-28
VII. Half-Committed To the Church:
A. In attendance - Heb 10:25
B. In support - I Cor 16:2
Conclusion: Jesus said it would be better to hot or cold rather than lukewarm. Notice the warning of judgment: "spue you out." Simply put, he rejects all the efforts of a Half-Baked Christian.
