Burning In Our Hearts

Luke 24:25-32

Introduction: It would do us all good if we experienced a walk such as the Emmaus disciples had experienced. Oh, that God would burn somethings in our hearts as we walk daily with him in his word and in prayer. What should our hearts burn with as we fellowship with him?

I. OUR HEARTS SHOULD BURN WITH DESIRE:

A. A desire to tell others about Christ (Mark 5:19) What a wonderful privilege we have to tell others of the Saving Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ

B. A desire to let out light shine before others (Matthew 5:16. The old saying that action speaks louder than words is very true. No one will see your faith without some action behind it. Abraham showed his faith by offering his son Isaac on the altar. God said, "...I have seen thy faith.

II. OUR HEARTS SHOULD BURN WITH DEVOTION:

A. He deserves our devotion (John 21:15-17). Jesus wanted to find out where Peter's (and the others) devotion lied. "Peter do you love me more than these fishing boats...Feed my Sheep. Do yo love me more than these fishing buddies... then feed my sheep. Do you love me more than these fishing nets... then feed my sheep."

B. Friend, is there anything in our live you are more devoted to or love more than the Lord Jesus? If so, that is idolatry.

III. OUR HEARTS SHOULD BURN WITH DETERMINATION:

A. As Daniel: He determined he would not "defile himself...." (Daniel 1:8)

B. As Paul: He determined to know no one but, "the crucified Christ..." (I cor. 2:2)

IV. OUR HEARTS SHOULD BURN WITH DENUNCIATION:

A. We should denounce sin

B. We should denounce compromise

C. We should denounce ecumentalism

What is that burning sensation in your heart? Is it for the Lord and the spiritual things of heaven. Have you "set your affection on things above..." or are your thoughts more on earthly things? Do you "seek those things above, where Christ sitted..." or are you seeking what the world has to offer?

The scriptures tell us "To seek first the kingdom of God and all these things (food, raiment, housing) will all be added unto you."
