Betwixt and Between

I Kings 18:21-39

by Billy Kellough

Introduction: Our scripture is taken from one of the many accounts of God's dealing with His people Israel. Ahab was a wicked king. He had an even more wicked wife, Jezzebel, who was a priestess of Baal

1. Baal was a principle male GOD figure. The object of their worship was the sun...Their religion was steeped with ritual and fleshly gratification.

2. Several times before the Babylonian captivity, the Jewish people clamored to the shrine of Baal...On this occasion, the Lord's response was to withdraw rain, parch the land and bring about a famine in the land.

3. After 3 years the Lord instructed Elijah to confront Ahab and the 450 prophets of Baal.

4. Elijah's piercing question to God's backslidden people was: "how long halt ye between two opinions?"

5. The prophet Joel looked out and saw multitudes of indecisive people. He cried: "Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision." - Joel 3:14.

I. MANY LOST PEOPLE STAND IN THE VALLEY OF DECISION:

A. They are many who compete for your soul

1. Satan will deceive you about the simpmlicity that is in Christ: 2 Cor 11:3

2. Your selfish flesh will rebel about a life of righteousness: Gal 5:17

3. Some of your friends and associates keep you from receiving Christ as your Savior.

4. Most of you hear today, certainly belileve that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who died for your sins and was buried and rose again the third day from the grave.

a. Even though you believe Jesus is Lord, you have not exercised that requirement to receive Him as your Savior.

II. MANY BELIEVERS STAND IN THE VALLEY OF DECISION:

A. Every beleiver should follow the Lord in baptism

B. Every beleiver should be a member of a local church.

C. Every beleiver should be decisive about committing himself to the fellowship and testimony of the local church.

1. Support it with their attendance

2. Support it with prayers

3. Support it with tithes and offerings

D. Every beleiver should be decisive about engaging in the ministry of witnessing and soul-winning

III. HOW LONG HALT YE BETWEEN TWO OPINIONS?

A. Indecision is a great curse

B. Procrastination is a destructive force

C. "He that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

CONCLUSION: "Behold now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation."
