DAVID E. WILLIAMS * HELLO COLUMBUS (OSPEDALE)

DAVID E. WILLIAMS' three track CD release entitled "Hello Columbus" is a quite impressive and interesting listen, as it is unique, with the power to be attractive and disgusting at the same time. I personally love the title track, with the lyrical highlight being "I penetrate her anus with a civilizing spirit." I just had to do an e mail mini-interview to see what was up with this guy: M: What inspired this release? DEW: The growing disparity between Columbus' Faustian heroism and my anemic failure. M: Is anything in this release tongue-in-cheek, or quite serious? DEW: Both and neither. My best moments, my most valuable psycho pathological textures - these are manifested when the tongue in cheek reveals itself as the serious, as the very deadly serious. M: What type of an education do you have? DEW: Bachelor's degree in English. M: What genre(s) of music do you feel this is suitable to file under? (or, what kind of audience clique do you feel you mainly attract at your live gigs) DEW: Sorry, don't like to ghetto-ize myself. HELLO COLUMBUS is a bold beauty/beast historical reflection from an artist with a talent for mixing civilized classically stringed typed music with some industrial driven drums, to reveal a savage sick truth and mostly hidden trials of torment. These three songs are somewhat humorous and strangely serious. I applaud DAVID's originality.

BLIND PIGS * THE PUNKS ARE ALRIGHT! (SWEET FURY RECORDS)

Brazil, the country these boys are located, should be very proud to have these punk rockers keeping the real true punk alive and kickin'. The BLIND PIGS rip through a tight and energized set of songs, which include some cover songs that stand out like: THE PUNKS ARE ALRIGHT, RUBBER ROOM, and SLAM. The title track of this album is actually a FORGOTTEN REBELS song, and the BLIND PIGS do a bitchin' job with it, but you don't need to take my opinion for it - the long time guitarist of the FORGOTTEN REBELS, JEFF CAMPBELL, personally enjoys it. The CD album design is very cool too. Some of the songs on this album are sung in the band's native tongue, which is interesting for me to listen to, and the weird thing is when they sing in English, their vocals actually sound a lot more clear and concise than actual English punk singers do. The BLIND PIGS are the better brand of new school punk. This punk band's a hell of a lot more than just alright!

SNOOP DOGG presents THA EASTSIDAZ * THE EASTSIDAZ (TVT/UNIVERSAL)

I had my youngest brother review this sucka, 'cause he's tha man with tha ear to tha Eastside's music. This is what he had to say: *One of SNOOP DOGS greatest albums *Great beats and lyrics - however some tracks contain the same beat (I guess you can't keep a good beat down--Ed) *I think they talk way too much about the Eastside, they say it at least three times per song *It's very different from SNOOP DOGS previous collaborative work, with let's say the late TUPAC, and he should have more songs that grab you like GOT BEEF *SNOOP uses the F & N words way too much *SNOOP talks about smacking up his bitch *A lot of humor in most of this material - example: SNOOP doesn't play B-ball, he plays bitches. So, it seems we have a winner with SNOOP's latest project.

CHICK MAGNETS * LOW BUDGET SUPER HEROES (CRUSTY)

This threesome from Vancouver, BC save the day again and again, song by song with their humorous brand of kind of quirky pop punk that mostly deals with girls and the fine web of weirdness when mixing up, or trying to mix up with them. Any girl crazy young man or teen boy can relate and reap the rewards of silliness the CHICK MAGNETS whack off. All the tracks on this CD are well worth many listening sessions, so check 'em out damn it! I really like this CD - I'd love it, but I'd be too afraid it'd leave me.

Spacecraft7 demo (independent)

Spacecraft7 is highly suitable space pop rock 'n' roll for aliens that want to party!. Flamboyant vocals accompanied by a new wave style of music has this band hovering in the areas of B-52s, DEVO, and TALKING HEADS. Spacecraft7 take off on a trip all over the cosmos with this CD, lighting up with silliness and ending off with some tracks of serious live improvised drone that reminds me of CHROME.

CORPUSSE * SURRENDER TO THE PASSION (TOTAL ZERO)

If you get a hold of this album (anything by C is a must-have), than you have surrendered to the passion that is CORPUSSE. To me, I envision CORPUSSE as a deranged SESAME STREET monster screaming/singing sensation on crack. This band consists of the destructive duo of CORPUSSE and LORENZ PETER, who also use their graphic talents to grace the CD artwork, which gives the fairly adult subject material a child-like cartoon appearance/appeal. The listening pleasure and pain that is CORPUSSE is disturbingly serious and hilarious at the same time. I notice CORPUSSE has experimented with his voice a bit more for this album. On with some track commentary: The opening track "NOW AND AGAIN" reminds me of C's "MINDFUCK". "SON OF MAN" is a song in reference to CHARLES MANSON, and it's cool. "SPIDER" has a cool beat. "ROCK SONG" sounds like a BUTTHOLE SURFERS kind of song, mainly due to the drumbeat and effects involved in it. The title track of this album clocks in at almost fourteen and a half minutes, and it even has some deadly dance sequences to it. CORPUSSE has done what my last review longed for. The last track on this album not listed on the CD tray card (but in the insert info.)"POP ROCKS" is a live recording which gives one an excellent example of what your ears can expect from a live gig from the two piece - and my visualization of the sounds I hear on the track make me believe CORPUSSE destroys things on stage. Keep it up CORPUSSE, there are many beautiful girls in Japan if you're successful.

FORGOTTEN REBELS * NOBODYS HERO'S (OPM)

MICKEY's voice has a different sound to it on this album. This could be due to the studio recording methods involved in this production, (vocal chord change?), or as an experienced singer trying out a different vocal approach. Lyrically, MICKEY hasn't lost it. This album features some more reflective material, that has a more precise feel to it than previous releases. I guess you would have to say this is an album that shows his maturity (listen to: NO PLACE TO HIDE, ZEROS), and immaturity at the same time. This album probably best represents the magnum force of wit and wisdom MICKEY has always presented. DAVE sings DICKWART, and that's great to have a different REBEL take the vocal helm and croon (in a punk kind of way) out a song. It's weird, because you might actually think it's MICKEY singing for a few seconds, but DAVE has a tone all his own, but if he has a DICK WART, well, I don't want to know. Musically, the REBELS belt out a tight and upbeat rockin' album. The album liner cover work is a refreshing change to check out. A funny thing to check out, is how they feature a picture of a costumed MICKEY MOUSE as Mr. DeSADIST. I like that the hand scrawled lyrics of the tracks are presented throughout the CD insert to observe, providing a closer interpretation of the lyricist. My personal favorite tracks on this release are the two openers - HOCKEY NITE and THE AMERICAN IN ME (an AVENGERS cover) If the FORGOTTEN REBELS aren't one of my heroes, I don't want any.
