The Davidsons originate from Aberdeen, Scotland. William Davidson, in the Royal Scots Fusiliers, was at the Relief of Ladysmith in the Boer War. Other surnames on that side are Joiner, Glennie and Ross. My other side originates from Devon, England: Cole, Youlden, Baker. In 1242 Roger Cole lived at Chulmleigh, Devon. Benjamin Baker (1731-1807) was over-seer of Otterton, Devon.
There is a four volume book on th Cole family of Ashreigney with definite links back to about 1600, probable links back to 1525, and located mentions back to 1100s.
