Tina's Story

Assalamu Alaikum, my name is Tina, and I would like to tell you how I came to be a Muslim. But first, let me tell you a little bit about my childhood. I grew up in the Chicagoland area, not with a very religious family. I can remember going to church with my grandmother when I was a little girl, but then she moved to North Carolina. My mom and dad never went to church or practiced any religion. So I became curious, and started asking questions. My first question being, "how can Jesus (a.s.) be the son of God?" I was told it's in the bible so we have to believe it. Well that wasn't good enough for me. I started asking more questions, like, "what was my religion?" and my mom said I was Protestant, I never heard of this religion, so I asked "what does that mean?" and she said that it means I can choose my own religion when I get older. And I accepted that. Then, in February of 1989, I met a young man who started talking to me about Islam. Allah(swt) sent him to me. The first thing this young man told me was that Muslims believe in the oneness of God, and Muhammad is the last Prophet. Then he went on to tell me that Jesus(a.s.) is a Prophet, and not the son of God. Things started to make sense to me. I had never heard of this religion before. I wanted to learn more and more about Islam. The more I learned, the more I was convinced that I wanted to be a Muslim. This young man told me the words I had to say to become a Muslim (Shahada). I said the words, Alahmdulillah, I have been learning about Islam ever since. As far as my family is concerned, I don't have much of a relationship with my mom and dad because of my conversion. But I still keep in touch with my grandmother and some of my aunts, the rst of my family don't want to keep in touch with me. But I think that is a blessing in disguise, because my real family are my brothers and sisters in Islam. As for the young man, Alhamdulillah, he is my husband and we have been married for 9 years. I thank Allah(swt) every day for guiding me onto the "siraatal mustaqeem"!

I want to thank you for taking the time to listen to my conversion story. Walaikum Salam wa rahmatullahi wa baraktu.
