The difference between Christian music and secular music is the message each holds. While secular punk rock acts send off a message of angst because of the government, promote drugs, and use profane words in their songs, Christian punk bands deliver a message that the listener can hold on to. This is the message of the love of Jesus Christ. It is not only found in the punk genre of music, but in ska (Five Iron Frenzy, etc.), alternative (Skillet, etc.), modern rock (Bleach, etc.), rap-core (Every Day Life, etc.), hard-core (Blindside, etc.), as well as all other formats. Christian music is designed so that the listener can enjoy great music, according to their listening preferences, that delivers a message of peace, hope, and love.
These bands are not communicating this message because they are forced to by the church, to make money, or to earn special points so they can go to heaven. The reason they sing about God is because they have experienced what He can do in a person's life. They know that God saves because He has saved them. They want others to experience the same peace and love that they have come to know in Jesus.
Christianity is not boring. That is why these bands do not limit themselves to singing for God only in choirs at church or only in the form of super-mellow inspirational music. They have taken God's message to the edge and delivered it as it truly is: hard-core and fun (ska, punk, alternative).
This message is for everyone, and that is why it is communicated in every way. God loves each person the same, no matter how bad or good they think they are. No matter what you have done, their is not one sin that is too big for God to forgive. His Son has payed for the sins of all man. Man is not perfect and we are all sinners. God knows this and that is why He forgives us. He puts meaning in our lives when we accept Him in our hearts and gives us peace, love, joy, and hope, a reason to live. What He does for those who accept and know Him is so great and that is why we sing about Him. It is man's choice, however, to accept God. You have seen what the world has to offer--sex, drugs, money, etc.--and that those things do not fill the void in your life and they just bring you down. But you can find real fulfillment in Jesus Christ, but it is up to you to take the next step.
