Welcome PC Lovers !!
Have you been suddenly having a bit
of trouble with you e-mail, and don't know why? It's possible that it might be your "browser"! If you have recently downloaded Internet Explorer 5.0, the program itself may be the villain! There have been a few minor "bugs" in the 5.0 version of this widely used browser, and you may want to either, "downgrade" to 4.0, or for better online security, 4.1 . You can always re-install 5.0 later, when it has been de-loused!
Is it time to run "scan disc" and "defragmenter"? Remember to disable the screensaver! A simple "right click" on any blank area of the desktop will give you a menu that has "screensaver" as a listing. Point to it and it will give you the option of having it on or off. Off will be the way to go until you have finished cleaning and re aligning the blocks that help build your memory.
Tired of removing "cookies" from the cookies file? There is a simple fix for this, that only takes a minute! If you go to the cookies subfolder in your Window folder, and "right-click" on it, you will see a "properties" prompt. Pick it and change the file's attribute to "archives", and it can't be written to! you may see a few warnings that you have to accept the cookies to visit the site, but that's just "eyewash" to try and make you bite into their cookie! Ignore it!

Our last meeting
We were supposed to have a demonstration of the newest DVD Technology, and see what a DVD movie could look like on out monitor, but there was a slight snag in Doug's plan to demonstrate it. The computer he was going to use didn't have the proper "driver" in the vid card to operate the program. Maybe next month!
We had a few members who were concerned about the many viruses that have been coming out lately, and we discussed the ways that a virus is gotten, and passed on. Doug told the group that most viruses are "imbedded" in the "porn" sites, and are then transmitted through e-mail from the infected computer to any or all the people on their address book list. everyone says" I never visit THOSE sites!", but the fact remains that THOSE sites are still the most popular and profitable ones on the world wide web .Someone visits them! The safest thing to do is not open any mail attachments from unknown sources, and run a virus scan from time to time. There is a free site for this on the CyberNotes main page.
I had a "problem" with my "Outlook Express" and lost my address book! Any members who didn't get a notification about the current Newsletter, please send me an e-mail so I can "re-add" you to the Group List!
The next meeting will be on Wed June 2nd (I think) unless we are starting the Summer Recess! I'll advise all members as soon as I know for sure .

What's new !
Norton , the company that gave us "Norton's Anti-Virus" has added a new weapon to it's arsenal, called "Norton System Works"! It does an even better job of location and cleaning up problems in the hard drives of your PC, and has been Highly Rated by a number of PC Periodicals. Doug at ABP Computer Services has information on how to get this new Norton Program
Have you heard about Linnux
Operating Systems? It's said that this System is superior to Windows, because it is almost "glitch-free", but it doesn't have enough available support and software available yet to make it much of a competitor of Microsoft as yet! Here's an information link, in case you are curious about the possible future of Computing
http://www.ghg.net/crholmstrom/linux.html
Just when it seemed like "Half the Speed of Light" (500mmx) would be the "ceiling" for PC speed, someone comes in with an improvement! Thanks to new advances in the technology used to "read" information, there may soon be 600 or even 700 mmx computers available. Since it always costs more for the newest "fad" gadgets, this means that it may be possible to pickup a bargain on one of the "old fashioned" 450mmx or 500mmx PCs in the very near future!
Ahhhh, isn't fashion a wonderful thing? Keep in touch!!!!
