HELP!!!
At the May Meeting we got the ball rolling for the Group's Picnic.
It has been  decided that we will meet  at Verona Beach State Park on Wednesday the 5th of August for our meeting, at the usual time. We can talk computers and munch hot dogs at the same time. Start thinking  of  what kind of "pass-around dish you want to bring
(specialties are fun) and let myself or Clare hear from you.
Carnivores must bring their own meats. There is still a lake there too!
Anyone find any new "sites"? I'm thinking of putting  out this Newsletter  bi-monthly, but I'll need something to  relate!

The Editor

      Welcome
  PC Lovers !!
    If you are saving your
pennies until" Cousin Bill" get the O K to sell Windows 98, you may want to put it in a Savings Account and get the interest. Now his "Uncle Sam"
is getting into the act, saying that he is making too good a product, and to let someone else think of a better idea. I'd
bet Edison would have loved to hear that one!
  All the "scares" about you
getting a virus from E-Mail are basically unfounded rumors, because there isn't any way to include a "deadly command" in the message. But , an "attachment" to any
E_Mail can carry a virus. If you get mail from an unknown source, with an attachment, be careful in actually opening it. That's when you can get "infected"!
AOL has decided to treat all E Mail , sent to multiple addressees, as "SPAM", and are blocking delivery. This Newsletter is a "multiple addressee" publication.. So , if
you don't receive this Newsletter, be sure and let
me know!

Our last
  meeting
There were plenty of
members speaking up
at the May meeting, adding their experiences to the discussion. All
benefit from this sort of interaction, so keep it up!
The May meeting also featured a very good
presentation from Jean MacAlpine, a local
Elementary Librarian, and
Internet Enthusiast. She
spoke of her experiences on the internet, and how this tool has broadened her horizons
in helping her students locate information.
Speaking of search engines and list serves,
she gave the group a lot of new ideas, and then fielded the many questions that everyone had for her.
Thanks, Jean! We all
benefited from what you had to say!
  The next meeting
is June 3rd, We will
be meeting at the
Library,as usual, and
I hope to see you all there. Bring an interested friend!

What's
  new !
  There is a new "Big
Gun" in the data storage
area in the form of a "floppy" that holds a ton
of information! (10 times as much as present one.)
  You have to 'Upgrade"
your floppy drive with a new one, but the good news is that the new drive will run your old floppys too! The drives are available now, but the discs are scarce so far.
  400 MMX!  That's the
new ceiling that all the
computer manufactures are pushing now. By the end of the year they'll be over half the speed of light! Huge hard drive memories are coming out too, and the combination makes for some great new machines. All we need now is for "roadrunner" to get rolling, and then~~~~~
  Who Knows!!!
