Welcome PC Lovers !!

We had a nice surprise awaiting us at the Group Meeting this month! Doug had been working on a piece of linking software that would allow a regular television to act as a monitor, not  unlike WebTV. So we could all see what he was doing on his monitor and PC from every seat in the house. The TV was 27", so the images were a little blurred, because the program was designed for a smaller TV, but it worked great, and was a big help. Nice job Doug!!

If you are using "regional calling" services to connect online, you better keep a close eye on your phone bill!!  It seems that "Ma Bell" is targeting those who use their regional calling service to connect online, and billing you extra! If you are in this "targeted group" I strongly advise you to complain to the phone company about this unfair discrimination tactic. If enough people complain, perhaps  it will
make a difference
At the meeting this month, Doug also did a "show and tell" on Digital Cameras.
They have come a long way in a short time, and now the ones you can buy for under 300  bucks are as  good as the big ticket ones that were available a year ago!
The download program on the camera Doug had was a little slow, but he also showed us a program that speeds that up too!    I guess it just goes to show you, there is a way to do almost anything faster, and better in Cyber Space!

Our last meeting

We had another good turnout at the June meeting, and we kept right on with the basics, "Windows 103", for the first hour. We discussed ways to speed up our PC, by disabling things we rarely use, like "Fast-Find" and "Active Desktop" Both use resources, and slow the computer processor.
We also  went over the different desktop appearances, and ways to switch things like "Icons" and "backgrounds" to make the PC a truly individualistic extension of the owners tastes. Any rumor that Doug has pictures of scantily clothed ladies  on his computer  is pure speculation!

We are in the "planning stages" of another Group Picnic! I'll be e-mailing all members soon, asking what dates will be best for the most members. We hope to have a nice turnout, but that will be up to you! Please let us know the best date from the ones we send you!

The summer season is upon us, allegedly, so there will not be any more Group Meetings until Fall. I will continue to send you advisories about viruses, and problems online as I hear of them, and hope to see many of you at the Picnic!

Have a nice Summer!!!!

What's new !
I have recently been telling a few friends about a website called "terraserver.com" It's a site where you can actually  "zoom in " on your neighborhood from space! It's not real time satellite photos, they're a few years old, but it's still pretty cool! Here's the website:
  http://www.terraserver.com
Every month it seems, there is a new "talk" program that allows PC  to PC communication via voice. I recently was told that there is a "Star Trek" communicator program now, that is pretty cool !  You guessed it:
  http://www.startrek.com
is the URL link. if you want to be a true "Trekkie"!
One last note. I have noticed that "Uncle Bill" Gates has been a little more high profile, on television the past few weeks, hinting at some really great sounding new programs! I can't wait to see what the world's richest "geek" has in store for us next!
