Welcome PC Lovers !!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It's the final countdown to the new
millennium, and we are still hearing
horror stories about losing all the nice stuff we're used to, like electricity, water, and our money. I can't help but wonder if it would have been better for the government to have been nicer to "Uncle Bill" Gates, since he heads the most powerful computer-based enterprise in the world! His hard working techno-freaks might have a solution to the whole thing for all the boys in D.C. know, and is just waiting for someone to ask him!
After Christmas is the traditional time for "deals" on the stuff that didn't sell as well as expected for presents under the tree. If you've been saving your pennies to get a newer piece of computing equipment, like a scanner, digital camera, printer, or even a new PC or notebook, this is probably as good a time as any to blow the cobwebs off that purse and get it done! Just do a little homework
first, like reading the latest input in a consumer magazine, and remember to take your notes with you to the store! I'll bet that Doug (aka fearless leader) can help you along these lines, and probably get you as good a deal as the store at the mall. Just tell him what you have in mind, and show him what pieces you've selected! "NUFF SAID"

Our last meeting
Our last meeting started as a question and answer session on "buying or upgrading your computer, and ended up as a "free-for-all" with a dozen different sub-discussions and chats going on at the same time. It made it difficult to hear what was really happening, and I think a few of the members were quite confused by it all. PLEASE PEOPLE, if you have anything to add to a discussion, try to do it in a way that everyone can benefit from it!
As long as were talking "human input", I think it's time that we start hearing from the members as to what they would like to get into at the meetings! Remember, it's your Group too, and it will be a lot better Group if the members are ACTIVE! Would you like to learn how to take apart your computer and put it back together? SAY SO! How about the best methods for keeping that expensive equipment clean and "new" looking! THAT'S POSSIBLE! Or maybe you need to have more coverage on basic stuff like how to find that silly file you just lost! Keep a notepad nearby your computer (or TV froggie-poo) and jot down a note when it strikes you. Or, better yet, type it into an e mail to me
killeray@dreamscape.com
and I'll pass it on to Doug for you!!
Our next meeting is Wed . Jan 6th, at ABP Computer Services, and will basically be a "question and answer" format about
setting up and maintaining a webpage on the internet. If there isn't enough interest in this topic we'll also field questions from the Group about any topic that has been troubling you! SEE YOU THERE!!!!!!!

What's new !
The dust has barely settled on the release of Win 98, and there is already a "Beta" version update on the table. with another "upgrade" to appear this spring. I don't want to be an "I-told-ya-soer", but anyone who stuck with Win 95c is a much happier camper than the "front-runners" who don't know any better than to buy the first model of a new product. The best part of it all is that Win 98 is only going to be around a year or so, and then a whole new ballgame is headed our way, courtesy of "Gates and Co"!
I've already read enough reports about it to make me more sure than ever that Win 98 is going to become a "flash-in the pan" by the millennium's onset. You don't have to take my word for it, by the way, If you read any of this month's computer magazines(even the shortened online versions) they are all talking about this!
There is a company based in our own beloved Syracuse that is "shaking the tree" on long-distance phone service, by changing analog phone signals into digital data and transmitting it over the internet. This is so efficient (they claim) that it can make a long distance call to anywhere in the country a 4.5 cent a minute reality! Watch for more developments on this new idea, and don't be too suprised to hear that all the "big boys" are going to start offering "deals" on phone services if you'll just commit to a long-term contract with them!
