Welcome PC Lovers !!
My first order of business is to say I'm
a toad; I've let my fellow members down, and haven't been writing these "Monthly" Newsletters as the name implies. I'll attempt to do better.
THIS NEXT BIT IS IMPORTANT!!
I have added a new dimension to these
Newsletters, in the form of Direct Hyperlinks! From now on, if I mention a site by name, it will take you directly there, if you click on the name, which will be underlined! For example MySimon.com it will
take you there if you click on it. Go ahead, try it on the above link to a site that will help you find the best price on a
product.( cool huh?) More about how to best use that site later on in the newsletter.
My arsenal of tools for this page has increased slightly too, with the addition of
a digital camera! This could be fun! All I have to do is figure out how to add pics to the Newsletters....... well, we'll see!!
While I'm at it, any members reading this could put in their "two-cents" too by giving me some fodder for this manger of mumbo-jumbo.
Got a Favorite Site ?
Give me a hint, and I'll share it with the group (as long as it's not one of Those
sites !!
I've been trying to get some news as to the status of Group Meetings, but so far all I've gotten is an answering machine! If I hear anything, I'll let all members know!

Our last meeting
Darned if I know! I heard that there was a Group Meeting in December, but I got word about it too late to attend. If the schedule is adhered to, there is supposed to be a meeting on Wednesday the 10th, but I have not, as yet, heard that there is.
"Windows Basics" was what we were working on at the last meeting I did attend, and I'll bet there is more yet to learn! Computers, like their human counterpart, the brain, are rarely used to their fullest potential, and there is always something new or different to be discovered! The biggest obstacle to be overcome is a fear of doing something wrong. We've all heard horror stories about computer crashes and ruined hard drive memories, and those things have happened, however, the newer computers and software programs have become increasingly stable and forgiving of operator errors. What it all boils down to, I suppose, is that you have to be ready to explore all the horizons that are opened to you by modern technology if you want to continue to grow as a person. If a caveman hadn't been curious enough to see what the bolt of lightning had done to his tree, we might still be eating cold meat in the dark!

What's new !
The very popular website, EBay has come under scrutiny from the federal law enforcement agencies. The site itself is ok, but many unscrupulous sellers have been either misrepresenting their wares, or not delivering the goods that have been purchased. EBay is working on a solution to the problem, so stay tuned for news.
A lot of computer companies and retail outlets are selling "packages" that give great"discounts" if you sign up for an internet server when you buy a new computer. It's VERY IMPORTANT to remember that the server you sign with must have a local access phone number for your area! If they don't, it will cost you more than you can imagine for long distance charges to be online.
Just a last reminder!!
If you hear of or get an e mail that warns you about a "virus" you can get the latest word on it's veracity at
www.symantec.com
Every virus that appears is checked out by their experts, and evaluated. Hoaxes are quickly uncovered, and real dangers addressed with practical solutions if you get "infected"
Click on the link above, and add it to your favorites. It's a great "tool" for anyone who websurfs, and it's a free service!
