Welcome PC Lovers !!
It's nearing Christmas already, and there is a lot happening in the world of computers and online sewrvices, some good some bad.
There are a couple of companies that are offering totall free online access, by featuring advertizing on the screen all the time, no matter what site you go to! The idea is hat you'll see something you might like while you are looking for what you want! Theonly catch is that none of these ISP's have a local phone number for accessing their service. the closest is netzero.com which has a
Syracuse and Utica access phone number. That's ok if you have 315 regional calling, I don't!!
"Uncle Sam" is thinking of making online services a lot more expensive, like it currently is in most of Europe!
The FCC is considering making the amount of time you spend online a factor on your phone bill! simply put, you will be charged by the minute for online time, even if it isn't a long-distance call! I Haven't heard how it will effect "Roadrunner" which is cable-based instead of phoneline, butI'll try to keep you posted as I hear more!
Thanks to all you members and friends who have sent me your favorite sites and links! I've included as many as I found worthy on the website that also has this newsletter.
Browse around, there's a lot there!!

Our last meeting
Our last meeting featured a talk and demonstration by a rep from "Roadrunner", the Time-Warner affiliated company that gives you online access without tying up your phoneline. If you missed it, you really should at least stop in to ABP Computer Services sometime and see just how FAST!! it really is!! I was impressed, and so was every member who got a chance to try it out! They aren't offering our group any "deals" as yet, but I think Doug is trying to get them to make us some type of "discount" if we switch. We'll
try and keep you posted on that!
I wish I could tell you all what is on-tap for this month's meeting, but I haven't a clue myself as yet! Doug has been really busy with his business the past month (yeah Doug!) and the coming Christmas Season is adding to his workload, so we may just have a general "question and answer" session this month! Bring your computer-related queries to the meeting, and see what you can find out from the members who have been there too!
This month's meeting is this coming Wednesday, Dec 2nd at ABP Computer Services on Main Street in Oneida NY at 6 PM sharp! If ya have too many cookies made for the holidays, bring some in to share! I love home-made cookies!! LOL!

What's new !
Did anyone see this week's "Parade"magazine in the Sunday Herald American? They featured a ton of new products, services and ideas that have been marketed just in time for Christmas! (who'd a thunk it!!) There's goggles that replace your PC Monitor a digital camcorder that weighs in at 19 oz.
and records up to 90 minutes,
and a chair that would be the envy of Buck Rogers! Beg, borrow or steal a copy of the Parade magazine from someone if you didn't see it!! It's worth the effort!!!
CompUSA a computer "Superstore" is opening in Carousel Mall this Friday Dec 4th. I got a flyer in the mail about it, and it looks like a major source for all kinds of computer-related gadgets and services. They won't know you from Adam's aunt Tessie, but I'm sure they will be willing to sell you anything you want, as long as you know what it is! This will make the 3rd big computer-cahin store in that mall since it opened! I hope this one lasts longer that the last 2!
Apple Corp is trying to be big in the PC world with their new iMAC
home PC! It's really cute with it's blue bonnet, but it's still a Mac, and that means it may be hard to find programs that are compatible
with it's format. I hope they do well, it is an American company after all! See ya all at the meeting!!
