Welcome PC Lovers !!
Well, the "wheels of justice" have rolled over poor "Uncle Bill"(Gates) and he has lost so much money that he has been demoted from "Richest Man in History" to only the "Richest Man of the Modern Era"
If our protecting angels in government aren't careful, he may just fold up his act and retire. What would stop him? Fear of being "poor" again? Right!!
Those of you with AOL, sorry to say, you are in "quarantine" as far as the rest of the ISP servers are concerned, because there are some bugs in the new version of AOL called "5.0." I have also heard that there is some type of "virus" attaching itself to the new version, but I won't say more of it until I get some hard facts. There is always someone out there, with a malicious agenda and a sharp mind, who spends their days making life miserable for others, and the less notoriety they receive, the sooner they will dry up and blow away.(At least that is the theory)
If you go downtown to get help with your PC (downtown Oneida that is) remember that ABP Computer Services has moved! Doug and Brenda are now across from Herb Philpison's (still on Main St)
in the middle of the block between Madison and Oneida Streets. It's a smaller storefront, but it's still the same great people, same great service.
I guess I'll put the "soapbox" back in the cellar for another month, and get on to the rest of the things I should be doing. I hope to see or hear from you all during the month, and welcome any input you have about the Group, or the website.

Our last meeting
We were a little "cramped" at the April 12th meeting, but it was good to see such a nice turnout! As promised, Doug went "back to basics" and we covered items in the Control Panel, Taskbar and Programs section of the PC, and discussed the relative differences between Windows 95 and 98.
Doug called the Session "Windows 101", and there was a lot of ground covered. During the break I watched the members discussing different aspects of what was covered, and was pleased to see members helping other members, with questions about how some of the "magic" is done. That's the type of thing that can make our Group stronger, and more vital. I'm basically a 'novice" still, and I learn a little something at every meeting, sometimes from the least expected source !
Our next meeting will be on May10th
and Doug plans to stick to the same format as the April meeting, first half will be "Windows 102" , and second half will be used to cover any questions that arise during the first half. If time allows he also hopes to throw open the floor to discuss any problems or glitches the members have encountered with their PC, internet, or computer-related questions I hope to see you all there, pen in hand, and notebooks at the ready!

What's new !
The speed of the PC processor has reached 1000 mhz, a plateau that was once thought to be out of reach. I'm told that the processors have had to revert to copper connections instead of aluminum to attain this speed , so you may want to turn in your pennies at the bank to make sure there is enough copper available! (Just kidding) My ancient computer (3 years is a long time in CyberSpace) is a 200mmx Pentium, and I can't even imagine what it would be like to have a machine that is 5 times as fast! And , who the heck can fill up a 15 gig hard drive? I guess "gamers" use a lot of memory to download complete games
but I've never understood why you would turn a PC into a playstation, when you can get one for a tenth of the cost!
I know a few people who have new computers, with Windows 98, and DVD / CD players, and they all seem to be having problems with their DVDs! Either they won't play a DVD disc, or they lock up when there is one playing. I've been looking at the idea of adding a CD"burner"( writer/re-writer) to my PC, and I'd appreciate any input that you all have had with any of this type of equipment or programs! I'm sure some are better than others!
