Broken Heart

Broken Heart

The Wounded Soldier "I have plenty of love to give, don't I Bronx?" AJ crooned as he lovingly stroked the soft fur of the formerly stray feline. Keesha stood uncertainly in the middle of the room. She hadn't anticipated AJ to be so...agreeable.

She was ashamed to admit it, but she'd secretly hoped that AJ would look longingly at her when she told him about her engagement to Jax.

"I know you do," she replied softly. Bronx purred loudly as AJ lazily scratched behind her ears. Looking up, he grinned at her. "I'm happy for you, really. Jax is a good man."

That wasn't why she came. She wanted for him to tell her she was making a mistake. Yes, she was being selfish, but seeing him so healthy, sober and full of life took her breath away. "Hey, I'm home!" Gia entered the living room, a pizza box in her hands and stopped suddenly at the guest. Her eyes widened, "I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were here." Bronx jumped down from AJ's lap darting across the hard wood flooring and twined herself around Gia's ankles, purring loudly.

"Keesha came by with great news. She and Jax are engaged," AJ said as he took the box from her, bussing her cheek affectionately. Gia's surprised expression turned to joy. "That's wonderful, I'm so happy for you!" she said warmly offering Keesha a hug.

Keesha plastered on a fake smile, but inside, she was devastated. AJ was happy, sober and moving on with his life. She had found love with Jax. Everything had turned out perfectly. So why did her heart ache as deeply as it did?
