Beyond Reach


The Daredevil She watched him from across the room, pained by the look of utter contempt and sadness on his face. Obviously, the fact that he'd declared his love for her the night previous had done little to sway her choice. The ring on her finger said more than words. She was with Jason and he wouldn't change her mind. Keesha swallowed hard and averted her gaze from Marcus, feeling the heat of his stare.

"He's never going to give up," Jason said in irritation as he caught sight of the detective who'd hounded him for years. "Don't worry baby, he's not going to do anything to me," he promised Keesha, bussing her cheek gently. Keesha forced a smile as she took one last look at Marcus before she and Jason left the restaurant. The look he'd sent her nearly left her breathless. Marcus wasn't chasing Jason anymore. He wanted her and by the looks of it, wasn't about to give up easily. It left her with another realization: she wasn't sure if she wanted him to give up either.
