Stolen Music Equipment Reports
&
Resources

========================================================

Well, we guess it goes without saying, but, unfortunately SMMO has decided to offer this page because someone out there just cannot seem to keep their hands to themselves.

It's a shame that we have to work so hard to buy our music equipment and then have someone come along and just help themselves to what it was we saved our nickles and dimes for. If you have been ripped-off, then send your case information to SMMO and we'll post it immediately for everyone to be aware of, and SMMO will help spread the word as best we can. Send your information via email to: smmo@somd.net SL: MIA Equipment

Anyone can post stolen equipment reports here. This is not devoted specifically to Southern Maryland. Theives obviously "know no boundaries"

Equipment Stolen - Drum Set!

SMMO Stolen Case File #2:
Posted By: Rick / Breaking Form
Date: 12/19/2003

If you’re a musician, you know that the absolute worst thing that can happen is to have someone steal your equipment... well, sometime in the early morning hours of 12/19/2003, an enclosed trailer parked on Centrewood Drive in Centreville, VA was broken into and a LOT of musical equipment was stolen from the band BREAKINGFORM. Most of the equipment was clearly marked w/ the bands name, but this might have been painted over. The instruments were custom in nature, mainly a 4 piece SONOR DESIGNER SERIES drum kit, greenish gray wood grain in color (not a set like it for about 500 miles either). We’re just asking that our fellow musicians keep an eye out for us, as we would for you. If you happen to see any cases or equipment marked “Breakingform”, please give us a call- and we will forever be in your debt. Like AMW, you will remain anonymous. Thanks in advance.

Insurance For Your Music Equipment:

Personal Articles / Property Coverage

You may have more valuable possessions than you realize. Your Homeowners Policy can provide some coverage, but with deductibles and limitations. A Personal Articles Policy can provide the additional coverage that you may need.

Musical Instruments/Equipment

"Most personal musical instruments, which includes sound and amplifying equipment, can be listed on a floater. Each item should be listed on a schedule with the requested amount of insurance coverage".

This is just a suggestion that SMMO has offered, you may want to check with your insurance agent to see if they offer a Personal Articles Policy, you might be glad you did!

===================================================================================

Ponder This BEFORE You Get Ripped Off:

It's a good idea, and we mean RIGHT NOW!, to put togehter an inventory list of every single item of musical equipment you own and be sure to include the following data for each item you have listed on your equipment inventory list:

* Owners name(s), address(s), phone number(s)
* Name Brand, Model Number, SERIAL NUMBER
* Estimated value of each item
* Product Description (ie: colors, size, features)
* Identifiable Markings (ie: Band names, designs, logos)
* Special Identifiable Marks (ie: scratches & dents)
* Photographs of each individual item
* Did we mention serial numbers?

Remember, this is like putting together a missing child report for many of us musicians, any and all additional information details you can offer about the item is very useful, too much information is never enough!

A Message From The Editor Of SMMO:

This page was inspired by Rick of the group "Breaking Form". Unfortunately, Rick, and the entire band, were victims of theft by some low-life thief, as if having your stuff stolen wasn't bad enough, their gear was stolen from them right at Christmas 2003!

Therefore, SMMO has put this page on the website to help out others like Rick who should never have to go through such a situation. Let's all hope we never have to see this page again, and if we do, let's ALL make our best efforts to help those who were victimized to get their gear back , safe and undamaged, and put the low-life thief behind bars for being such an idiot.

Thanks
Dwight
