 March 25-26    April 22-23   May 20-21       June 24-25      August 26-27

President’s Notes: The 2005 Show season was again a great success, and we have our marvelous and talented membership to thank for making it a pleasure to hold.  We pride ourselves on our sportsmanship, and strive to maintain our atmosphere of having a fun time while learning the ropes of showing.  We will continue to try to improve where we can in an ongoing effort to serve our membership better!  We value your input!.

SHOW FORMAT:  Southern Maryland will be running three rings this year on Sunday in an effort to finish our day a little earlier.  Many of our young competitors are in school the next day, and with the show ending late it makes for a very long day returning to barns and unpacking at home…not to mention our senior clientele who all have jobs to go to on Monday am….we will be using the schooling ring as Ring Three, for the very youngsters and our Model Classes.  This ring will start at 8:00 am, with Ring One (Hunter Ring) and Ring Two starting at 9 am, following the conclusion of the Model Classes.  The Hunter ring will start off with PONY HUNTER classes this year….and finish up with HORSE HUNTER classes.  The center ring, Ring Two, will be Adult and Horse Pleasure classes.  Please be sure to check the prize list CAREFULLY when filling out your entry forms….

JUMPERS:  Jumpers will continue to be held on Saturday, not to commence prior to 1 pm.

DRIVING:  Driving classes will be held at the end of our day on Saturday, not to start before 2 pm.  Last year, they ran at about 3-4 pm, but be there earlier than 2 pm to be sure.

REGISTRATION:  We are offering preregistration this year to help expedite your office experience and minimize traffic and snarls the days of the shows…these forms will be a different color, and the class fees for members for preregistration will be $9.00.  If you register the day of the show, the fee will be $10 per class.  If you are interested in preregistration forms, please email Smhahorseshow@aol.com with your name and address so we may mail you forms for the season.  Because these forms are needed in triplicate they must be obtained directly from SMHA.  No email copies will be accepted.

SCHOOLING BARNS:  Please count how many you would need and contact the email address so we can arrange delivery.  PREREGISRATION FORMS WILL BE DUE SEVEN DAYS (7 days) PRIOR TO THE SHOW DATE.  NO EXCEPTIONS!!  Preregistration forms should be mailed to:  SMHA, PO Box 17, Tracys Landing, Md.  20779  attn Betsy Andrews.

CLASS ADDITIONS:

Saturday – We are offering a non-Quarter Horse Pleasure division this year….three classes.

Sunday:  We are offering two new novice divisions this year, novice Hunter and novice Pleasure.  Both are restricted divisions, limited to novice riders in their first or second year of showing, and for Hunters, first or second year of showing over fences.  We are also offering two separate performance conformation classes, one for the hunter ring and one for the pleasure ring.  PLEASE check out the rule book carefully….

PRIZE LIST:   The prize list for the 2006 show season is attached….RESTRICTED DIVISIONS are in RED.  Please refer to the rule book to determine if you meet qualifications for these divisions.

BANQUET:  Our Banquet was successful, but we are looking to change to format a bit due to the length and number of awards.  More to follow later in the season as we work that out.

PRIZES:  If you did not receive your Year End Award, please contact Smhahorseshow@aol.com and let us know…we are aware of some who did not and plan on bringing them to the first show.  Please email anyway and let us know for confirmation.

RIBBON SNAFU:  We had a bit of a ribbon snafu at the banquet…if you received the wrong ribbons ,or did not receive the right ribbons,  please contact Smhahorseshow@aol.com...we are arranging to sort them to their proper owners….

RIBBON EXCHANGE:  This year for the first time we will be offering a ribbon exchange program.  You will be able to receive a coupon good for one SMHA dollar instead of a ribbon for placement, to exchange for banquet tickets, additions to value of year end prizes, “shopping  off the SMHA shopping list at the end of the season, or money off of show fees.  If you prefer to cash them in that day, YOU MUST present them to the office at the close of the day, and make sure they are properly filled out for credit.  We will have a ribbon tent with ribbon staff for all three rings to coordinate this….ribbons will not be handed out at the gate, but can be obtained at the ribbon tent…

SPONSORSHIPS:  Again we are soliciting as well for sponsorships.  As a sponsor your name or business is listed in our show booklet and our banquet booklet, and is announced with its division at every show.  Great publicity for your business or family!!

STALLS:  Stalls can be reserved by emailing Tlinesporthorses@aol.com.  Stalls paid for completely in advance receive a discounted rate…but only if they are paid for PRIOR to the beginning of the show season…
