Coop Designs and More

Here you will find information on a variety of designs for coops. These designs have been used by the novice as well as the experienced poultry raiser. Coops can be as complete containment, night time sleeping, nesting areas or a combination of the above.

This shed coop is very simply made. It is versatile, and can be designed to fit many needs. It is best used as a nesting area, or as a complete containment area for a small number of pullets and cockerals.

The above coop was made from an 10x12 shed. A ramp was made for easy access using two 1x6x8's. The actual nesting area was made with two metal shed shelving stands screwed together and attached to the shed wall. Two stand units were placed at opposite ends of the shed, and two 1x6x8's placed between them to create a walkway. The walkway was attached to the stands by screws and covered in wheat straw. The floor of the shed was also covered in six inches of straw. This coop design offers easy cleaning, and creates a comfortable nesting area for hens. It can be modified to accomadate night time roosting by attaching 2x4's at differing levels across the shed area.
