I have found lots of information on the Whelan family but very little source material. So I provide the following information about Michael and Bridgett's immediate family though I have not verified any of it except as concerns my direct ancestor, and I haven't even positively confirmed his birth date and place yet.

Michael Whelan born about 1716 in County Cork, Ireland. Died in Frederick Co., Maryland. Married a Bridgett born about 1729 in Ireland and died in Maryland.
Their Children:
i. Matthew Whelan born about 1750 in Ireland.
ii. Bridgett Whelan born about 1751 in Ireland.
iii. Daniel Whelan born about 1755 in Ireland.
iv. Michael Joseph Whelan born about 1756 in Maryland. He died 18 September 1818 in Washington Co., Kentucky. He was married about 1789 in Maryland to Grace Eleanor Teneley born about 1773 in Prince George's County Maryland. She died 6 September 1850 in Meade County Kentucky.
v. Margaret Whelan born about 1758 in Maryland.
vi. Thomas Whelan born about 1760 in Maryland.
vii. Martin Whelan born about 1762 in Maryland.
viii. Mary Whelan born about 1764 in Maryland.

iv. Charles Whelan born about 1801 in Washington Co., Kentucky. Died in 1823.
v. Eleanor Whelan born 1805 in Washington Co., Kentucky. Died 1 March 1881 in Washington Co., Kentucky.
vi. Michael Joseph Whelan born 13 October 1806 in Washington Co., Kentucky. Died 7 October 1874 in Meade Co., Kentucky.
vii. Edward Walter Whelan born 1810 in Washington Co., Kentucky. Died 19 October 1894 in Meade Co., Kentucky.
