A Soldier's Christmas

Title of Your Page

Jacqueline’s Junque

Looming there before him
Like a golden fantasy
Stood all that he had wished for
On this snowy Christmas Eve.

Approaching the house slowly,
Peeking through the window pane
Like stepping back in time somehow,
The familiar scene the same.

His father gently snoring,
From his favorite easy chair,
The dog curled up before the hearth
And the warmth provided there.

His mother in the kitchen,
Bustling to and fro'
From the table to the oven,
Her rosey cheeks aglow.

The tree in all its glory
Bathed in twinkling silver light,
Transforming all the darkness
On this wonderous Christmas night.

Packages in gossamer ribbon
Were piled high beneath,
A glowing candle in each window,
And on the door a wreath.

As he began to enter in,
He felt a sudden shake,
And fluttering his sleepy eyes
He shook himself awake.

Realizing now just where he was
His heart broke in despair,
Yes... there was home & Christmas,
But he would not be there.
