~ Leanne's Getting Healthy! ~

Jan. 16, 2006 - Emotions

I am struggling with emotions and the thought of home schooling for another year has been the root of the cause/issue.

I could just give up & have another 9 years being fat & forty

I have even thought of not going to weight watchers tonight as I have made some bad choices this week & I believe I have gained.

But I will go with my tail between my legs and strive for a better week this week.

I crave changes in my life style but reality is there will be none for at least another 6 or 7 years when James will of finished home school.

I know on ones deathbed I will be pleased I have given up the corporate world to of home schooled the kids & given them the best start we can. But there is a huge selfish side of me that would have liked things to go a different path. Out of all my friends I was never one to want to be a stay at home mum let alone a home schooling one.

I know this is the root of my weight & unhealthy choices being a stay at home mum

Not too sure what life lessons I am meant to be learning from doing this.

OK pity party over I need to look at all the neat things my lifestyle gives us & really focus & work on those.

  • One of them is our land we are very lucky to have 3 acres so close to town – it makes it achievable for Brent to commute to work
  • I do not have to talk to neighbours LOL
  • I can go outside in my nightie and no one sees me
  • James’ health would be soo much worse if he was in school
  • James’ self esteem would be at an all time low if at school
  • I know he would still not be reading if at school
  • James would spend all day outside in school for disturbing the class
  • Abbey would be happy with being an average student, she doesn’t like to stand out hence would be happy to let others be top of the class
  • Abbey would get annoyed at all the down time at school
  • Both would hate the home work
  • I would miss them.

As we begin a new school year and into our 8th year of homeschooling I need to let go of what I’d like to be & focus on what I have got. A life style that many would actually love.

Both kids have shown interest in gardening so I am hoping tis is going to be the cream of our home school something all three of us will enjoy.

Jan. 12, 2006 - Week 4 Wednesday

Well I just do not seem to find the net time to key a daily log of eating or points.

I have been good, exercise a bit low but jolly hip/back is sore.

I had stewed tomatoes on toast for breakfast

picnic lunch of bread & chicken

tea fresh fish (YUM) egg & bread crumbed with salad & hot chips

did 10,816 steps yesterday walking around zoo with kids & their friends - they ran ahead & would of done heaps more than me. A very windy day so windy all the animals stayed tucked up so didn't see many at all.

Note to self nevr go to zoo on a windy day.

Hence I  missed out as by time I make Brent's lunch & breakfast he needs to go to work. I was quite surprized with myself at how annoyed I was missing out on walk. I have another day of book work - seat work so not many steps will happen today again. Maybe we will go tonight for a walk if cool enough.

Jan. 9, 2006 - Very first last time weigh in

Yep I went to weight watchers weigh in tonight.

I did go down

felt a bit disapointed until I came home & worked it out in pounds - 1.5 pounds = .7kg

Growing up I talked pounds & stones - I still cook in pounds - change my scales always to pounds BAd aye! But I do remember to try & talk kilos with kids.

So I am happy with a small start - we have had Christmas, New Year & my Birthday plus last week I really fell off the wagon.

Key is to just keep at it.

I ried ww etools tonight but too slow for me I am on dial up & it took forever so I can pretty much say I will keep this blog going.

Jan. 9, 2006 - Life Make over

Life Makeover For The Year 2006 (sm)

January 9, 2006

Week Two -=- Move!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

-=- Brought to you by Cheryl Richardson -=-

~*~ Topic of the Week ~*~

As this New Year begins, I've spent some time over the weekend reading

through the emails I've received from people who are anxious to make

changes in the new year. There are so many great ideas, big dreams, and

exciting goals for the future. And, it seems that many people feel stuck

and unable to get motivated into action. As I review the various life

circumstances, I've noticed a few themes that hold a clue as to what

prevents us from moving forward. Based on this info, I thought I'd share

a few strategies for getting unstuck.

First of all, it's important to remember that the thing you need to do

most in preparation for getting unstuck is the opposite of what most

people do -- you need to stop beating yourself up and instead, give

yourself a break. Yup, that means being kind to yourself in spite of your

stuckness. It means accepting your feelings of hopelessness so you can

stop using so much precious energy trying to push these feelings away.

Getting unstuck means embracing the total you -- the person with good

intentions, the one who takes action now and then, and the one who keeps

tripping you up. The message is simple: Don't resist your stuckness --

it only keeps you stuck :).

The trick to getting unstuck then lies in three behavior changes:

1. Take back your power. One of the biggest mistakes we make when

feeling stuck is telling ourselves that our inability to move forward is

due solely to outside circumstances -- a lack of money, too many

problems, or the influence of other people, for example. All of us will

be faced with real-life challenges. That's a fact. But our place of

power always lies in the recognition that we have choices. They may be

tough choices like selling a home to relieve financial pressure or walking

away from an abusive relationship to reclaim our self-esteem, but never

mistake tough choices with having no choice at all. You always have

choices.

Too often we find comfort in a place of helplessness because it provides

an excuse for why things are the way they are. But, holding this position

will ultimately be the curse that takes you down. To turn this tendency

around, stop right now and consider one area you really want to change.

Ask yourself the following question: "What choices do I have in this

situation?" Then pick one and do something about it.

2. Manage your mind. Feeling stuck is first and foremost fueled by our

state of mind -- the thoughts we think from moment to moment. When we

feel unmotivated, it's because we're thinking unmotivated thoughts. When

we feel trapped, it's because we consistently tell ourselves that there

are no options. When we feel hopeless, there's a good chance that the

mantra running through our mind is something like: "Why bother?"

So, the key to turning this self-defeating habit around is to take control

of your thoughts. Easier said than done, I know. Rather than offer an

elaborate process for doing so, try this simple technique. For one whole

week, take a tip from my sister Michelle who instills the following

message in her kids, and repeat this phrase throughout the day:

I CAN DO ANYTHING!

Regardless of whether or not you believe it or whether it seems rational,

do it anyway. Say it to yourself when you first wake up, repeat it in

your mind while brushing your teeth, sing it to yourself while driving to

work or getting the kids ready for school. Then, keep at it through lunch

and dinner, all the way up to when you fall asleep. Just keep telling

yourself that you can do anything and notice how your mood and perspective

shifts.

3. Keep good company. Every successful person I've ever spent time with

has emphasized the importance of having highly motivated people around

them. As a matter of fact, just this morning as I watched Queen Latifah

on The Actor's Studio talk about how to stay motivated while building an

acting career, her first response was just that: "Surround yourself with

motivated people who are just as committed as you."

People who feel stuck tend to associate with people who like to

commiserate about the unfairness of the world. This is a recipe for

disaster -- you all stay stuck together. Find people who are up to

something big and feel excited about life, and spend your time with them.

If you don't have anyone, consider joining or starting a Life Makeover

Group. It's free and it's a great way to meet like-minded new friends.

You'll find more info here:

http://www.cherylrichardson.com/community/index.htm

Finally, if you're really ready to move forward, get help. Remember that

any anxiety you feel about being stuck is simply related to inaction. The

first step toward getting unstuck is making a move. Hate your job?

Contact a recruiter or job counselor today and find out how to start a job

change. Faced with financial pressure? Call your accountant, financial

planner, or credit counseling service and ask for help in putting a

recovery plan in place. Are you going to fail along the way? Of course.

Will you lose motivation now and then? You can bet on it. But the key is

to get started. Getting unstuck is only one tiny step away from where you

are right this minute. You just need to move your feet!

~*~ Take Action Challenge ~*~

1. Choose one area of your life that you'd like to change and identify

three choices you do have available to you right now. If you can't come

up with any, ask a friend for help.

2. Create a new screensaver that marches the words "I CAN DO ANYTHING!"

across your screen. If you're not sure how to do this then let your first

action step be requesting help from someone who knows how :).

3. Pick up the phone and schedule lunch, dinner, tea, or a telephone

catch-up conversation with a highly motivated friend who will support you

in your New Year quest for positive change. Ask him or her for help in

creating a simple 5-step action plan.

Jan. 9, 2006 - THOUGHTS ON EXERCISE

~ I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a

pound. Apparently, you have to show up.

~ If God meant us to touch our toes, he would have put them further up our

body.

~ I have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them

~ If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

~ I don't jog. It makes the ice jump right out of my glass.

~ I have to exercise early in the morning before my brain figures out what

I'm doing.

Jan. 7, 2006 - Routine, Routine

My days are so out of wack!

I need to get back to sitting down with a cuppa through out the day & log in here what I have been eating & doing.

And need a pen & paper in bedroom to record steps - I put counter on each am & forget to log steps in here.

But basically week has been poor  - no walking back better now not perfect & I am going back next week to get it tweaked.

Eating good

Beer oh dear I do so enjoy this & I think I am going to have to say no until I really get on this weight loss wagon. Beer is soo many empty cals. But soo nice on a hot evening. I did stop tea & Coffee & saved my points for my beer - but I am back to both.

Weigh in Monday & I think it is what I need to get real!

Might even have a fasting Sunday & Monday just so scales look GOOD. However I doubt I could fast!

Will make sure I do a meal plan for next week!

Jan. 6, 2006 - 6th Jan Friday

Brent now back at work & routines totally out of zink.

Wednesday I did hardly any steps - forgot to write it down so lost those steps. Thursday the step counter kept falling off my different shorts so I got poopy and took it off.

Friday today a new day back to it!

I have my first weigh in on Monday so better get back on board. My real key has been the blog, kinda keeps me focused but I do waiver at 5pm so need to watch that time of day. A real slump time for me.

I entered my measurments on Wednesday & I have lost some again YES!!

Weighed myself this am & my scales say I have lost 2kilos so all going well. Just gotta get a tad more serious every day!

Jan. 4, 2006 - New Years resolution about weight

Joke 1:

New Diet

Needing to shed a few pounds, my wife and I went on a diet that had specific

recipes for each meal of the day. We followed the

instructions closely, dividing the finished recipe in half for our

individual plates. We felt terrific and thought the diet was

wonderful -- we never even felt hungry! But soon we realized we were

gaining weight, not losing it. Checking the recipes again, we found it.

There, in fine print, was: "Serves 6."

===========

Joke 2:

A customer in a bakery was observed carefully examining all the rich-looking

pastries displayed on trays in the glass cases.

When a clerk approached him and asked, "What would you like?" he answered,

"I'd like that chocolate-covered, cream-filled doughnut, that jelly-filled

doughnut and that cheese Danish."

Then with a sigh he added, "But I'll take an oat-bran muffin."

Jan. 3, 2006 - Front Porch

I got a lovely email from Kris that she put me on the front Porch.

Oh my this Leanne's Getting Healthy blog is really making me be committed. I could easily give up the way I am feeling - you know first little set back Oh what the heck.... I'll be skinny along time once I'm dead sort of thought creep into ones mind.

I have no weigh in at Weight Watchers this week also as they are closed. But I will take my measurements & photo tomorrow. I do feel like I have lost weight around my tummy - the extra spare tyre is slowly going flat. Just wish the udders would burst!

Next Weigh in Monday 9th January & that is also the week we are back to home school (only lightly as summer here & public schools still on holiday so we will be flexible) Plus Brent is back to work so routines will kick in pretty good.

I have yet to do this weeks menu plans - really just been eating left overs. Ham & turkey has all gone now and we still have loads of fruit & veges to finish. Basically having BBQ most nights as soo hot.

Keep on keeping on....

Naturopath who I went to see was closed today but he was soo nice and met me out side the clinic – we have an unlisted phone number so he couldn’t ring me to say he was closed. So I brought this hunky guy home to work me over on my bed – well I choosed James bed.  He says I should start to feel better in a couple of days but may have to go back Thursday. Basically he thinks it is posture as my neck was out and the walking has aggravated everything. I also spend too much time sitting & sitting wrongly at the computer – you know one leg tucked under my bottom. So I accept not many steps for next few days & just take things quietly. I may have picked up some work being his booking gal. Soo nice of him to come home & work me over I really couldn’t of waited another day.

This set back is not going to STOP me!!! Just a minor set back. Chris also recommend I do yoga mmm he teaches it & a friend but really it is time & money – plus I have been before & I feel sound asleep how embarrassing!!

Now I see Weight Watchers in NZ we can now access tools on line I am very interested in this & I hope it does what I think it does eg I key in what goes in my mouth & it automatically calculates my points – it is about $40.00 per month which is a bit steep so will have to try & find out exactly what the on line tools do

WACKO!!! I walked this am the furtherest I have since starting ww – you know walk to that lamppost, next day a bit further & today I did the whole route & it was easy!!!

It is also getting addictive I really enjoy my walk with my Mastiff, he is a handful with prey & stock so I have him on a tight lead. I nearly swallowed my teeth yesterday am as the farmer was moving his cows – I nearly rang Brent to come get his dog but thankfully the gate was shut tight by the time we got there. He is a nice dog but just a terrible hunting instinct in him. I am sure my walking path we will out grow soon, shame as there are no other dogs down there & I love talking to the cows & sheep as I visit them each day.

I’m also hitting the herbal tea & cutting out coffee & tea this is cos it’s no points I like milk & sugar in my real caffeine drinks so if I save my points here I can have a beer or wine aye at night!! And that is nice on a hot evening!

Dec. 29, 2005 - HaPpY 41st Birthday to me

And I am giving myself my health for my birthday an all year goal.

I’ve fallen off the ww wagon since after Christmas. I want to achieve my goal of loosing the weight getting to goal weight and eventually walk 10K steps a day. My downfall is beer & wine they have soo many points. Then there is Pringles & chocolates not all gone but will get Abbey to keep them in her room Yep I have no will power over these items sigh!

Not sure what we are doing today – we did plan to use one of our vouchers & do a day trip but Brent hasn’t been feeling well, it is weird how when a man stops & rests he gets sick it is as if the body says I NEED REST STOP!!!

I laid out my walking clothes last night before I went to bed as last 2 mornings I haven’t walked – I didn’t want to go in our room & wake Brent up at 5.30am getting my clothes. I have to say I have missed this quite time with Mack the Mastiff. It is so yummy walking first thing.

Count all points and show all points no more oh dear blew it & not putting in the points or stopping counting – I wonder if this in the past is why I didn’t like ww you need to show how many points including how much over.

Had planned to have duck for tea but it is sooo hot here I doubt I’ll feel like cooking a HOT meal so we may just have bbq Brent enjoys cooking on the bbq & I could do a few more rows on James’ quilt.

I am enjoying all the fellow Hsers also travelling along the getting healthy plan, there now is quite a few working away and it is soo nice sharing our hurdles & success. I even bloged into an old friend from FIAR board days – real nice!!!

My 41st year is my year to look after myself & put my health needs as high priority. My 40th year was one of my better years we have had no dramas happen everyone was well & life ticked over real nice. Just think what my 41st year will be!

Blogging about my weight loss to get healthy. I am an apple on sticks, the most unhealthy body type that carries their weight on upper body.

Nothing will ever be attempted, if all possible objections must first be overcome.

Most of us miss out on life's big prizes. The Pulitzer. The Nobel. Oscars. Tonys. Emmys. But we're all eligible for life's small pleasures. A pat on the back. A kiss behind the ear. A four-pound bass. A full moon. An empty parking space. A crackling fire. A great meal. A glorious sunset. Hot soup. Cold beer.
